Along with the first requirement...Being a music lover also wouldn't hurt for this particular subject...

So... I am obsessed with the new The-Dream ALBUM...

The main board seems to be split (CLICK HERE to see what they thought of the CD and to DL the whole CD)

Back to my Dream obsession...Its a problem... I really want to see if people agree with me on this but I kinda only want input from the crowd that I think the music was produced for, those under 30 (really under 25). Tell me what your favorite song on the album is... also tell me if you cant be bothered with it those of you under 30 (the elders I already know your opinion on this one)...

This is my favorite song on the album: (Purple Kisses)

If you old heads are mad (I know y'all reading this even though I was really specific...Im not mad though)... I am sorry... this is a cut on his CD that I think he made for you all... (think "When Doves Cry" meets the electric guitars of Cameo "Candy" and some other stuff I dont know cause that wasnt my time)...but, as usual, I am sure you all wont like it... dah well.

***Disclaimer: In no way is my obsession with this man's music based on the fact that I think he can SANG or for that matter... even sing- I just feel his music is hauntingly melodious while at same time being unabashedly catchy ***

I'll be 24 next month and I dont get Dream. Seems like another pop-music creation, I was listening to him the other day and I turned it to listen to Switch.

Switch with Bobby DeBarge, "I call your name"

I got his album on my drive I'm take a listen to the songs you mentioned right now and get back to you.

dude... I am listening to it right now and I have to admit after the first 30 seconds I was waiting for "Rich Boy selling crack".... lol and I had no clue that that voice was "a man" much less "a grown man" lol.

thanks for hipping me to history...which always has the tendency to repeat itself.

You said under 30 and it mentioned Bobby Brown in the beginning????
How did you come up with an age group for the music?

I came up with the age group because the last time I posted about The-Dream...opinions about him seemed to be clearly split based on generation...so I just thought I would spare the elders since I already know what they think about him (and his kind lol).

As for the Bobby Brown reference that you heard....

That would be Bobbi Brown with an "I"...the make-up line...

:smh::hmm:

I downloaded it from off of the main board, but haven't listened to it yet...

Lately, my musical tastes have been leaning towards an older, smokier and soulful sound...so, from the few sounds I've heard, he doesn't seem to have that little ting I'm looking for...

:lol::lol::lol:

Thighs called you "sir." You're getting older by the minute.
... Thighs I have no clue about Dream (I am over 30 ;)) but it was funny you mentioned Cameo and When Doves Cry definitely something the grey crowd can relate too.:)

:smh: C'mon bubbles lets be out before we give this thread worms.

I can't believe how sheltered youngsters are these days

I admit am a bad example of a "youngsters these days"... I was not allowed to listen to popular music and oldies and things like that as a child of immigrants from another country with a different set of "musical" history they wanted to share...

I admit I am both sheltered and ignorant when it comes to older music, but now I am opening myself up to both the old and new... What about you?

For the record I'm 22, Black, and sexually active I think I fit this demographic.

I haven't heard the whole album but I listened to the two tracks you posted and of course i have heard "shorty is the shit". I didn't like the first single but I understand singles are for radio and you can't judge an album on that. Your favorite joint was cool I can see having it on in the background when I am doing other things but I don't see myself just sitting down and listening to it. The music and everything sounds good track has a nice feel but I can't get into dudes voice. Sounds very nasally and pubescent. The other joint sounds very Prince-ish you hit it on the head with the comparison.

I would give the album a listen but I don't see it being added to my library.

*****And does this dude talk in the beginning of every track for a minute:confused:

Awww thighs that's a beautiful disclaimer.
You know I'm just funnin, cutie pie :D Mainly at McGuyver! I can acknowledge that music tastes split along certain demographic lines.
I had to get a slang translation from some sexy young stuff I chatted with this week cuz I didn't know what the hell he was talking about! I know I'm old because I have basically stopped listening to the radio.

:smh: C'mon bubbles lets be out before we give this thread worms.

Get the walkers, baby. We got some oatmeal gummin' to do.

I love your music stash.

I just heard on satellite radio a cut produced by Herbie Hancock featuring Corinne Bailey Rae.

*edit* Just found out it was a Joni Mitchell cover, "River".

You would probably dig Eric Roberson too.

What type of music were you allowed to listen to?

Dude's sound is cool, cool hooks, more of a soft rapper, than an r-n-b singer, but hey, He's gotta sound, the same sound being marketed by Akon, T-pain, Nelly, guitar riffs, cool, but all that "shawty" shit drives me fucking insane, and if your lyrics, or adlibs fuck up my rhythm in bed or even on the dance floor, how the fuck you gonna be a classic....

I'm 30, and I honestly think the music coming out now is too trendy. A lot of guys who I listened to growing up like After7 or Guy didn't try to be hip,( well, at least Guy did get it off with out sounding contrived), and you can one night just about any women with some taste to their music.Bar none. Jodeci, has some hits, but it would be a nostalgic fuck, but nothing like passionate lovemaking. R-n-B should be baby making music that can withstand the test of time, too many singers these days are cats who couldn't make it rapping and it comes out in their execution. Sam Cooke is timeless, Muddy Rivers is timeless, Otis Redding is timeless, cats just need to get back to the basics, if I hear your rnb song in the club and don't slow dance to it, it can't be much of a slow jam....

my dime and nickel....

YBO

...From the looks of it... looks like someone's in love....

on second thought was in love...

I am always in love. The who's and what's might change but the feeling is always there.

One of the most impressive things about you is your grown folks taste in music. ;)

I'm 27. My problem with Dream is that he is too hook driven and rides the beat a tad too much for a singer. :smh:

Now I know he writes his own music, but it seems like he is just filling up space with his lyrics to get to the hook.

Now Sean Garrett writes in the same vein as him and I enjoy his music. I just don't like this dude. :smh:
