Re: For the dudes who love women with dreads..add on..The never ending dreadlock thre

I m' gonna make this short and brief because I know yall don't like to read.

First let me start by saying this, growing up in the hood I've been hearing my own people using the term she got good hair or he has bad hair... What does this mean? Then I started thinking to myself, Are we saying straight hair is better than kinky hair I've never heard anyone use this term more than my own mother so dont think i'm talking down on anyone. I just want to know why??? Y did her mother teach her this and Y Why Y is she teaching my little sister the same thing. Tell me why I saw my little sister wearing a weave all the way down to her butt when her own hair comes halfway down her back? Tell me Y I never even saw my own mothers natural hair ?????? Tell me Y she loves her weave more than her own hair.
Recently, I found out that my boyz have noticed the same thingz going on in their families. I had an argument with my girl she really pissed me off because after I finally got through to her about taking the weave out of her head, she did And she suprised me She was more beautiful than I even knew. And the sad part was, she didn't think so. She looked like she wanted to cry. I couldn't figure out Why she was she so uncomforatable in her own skin? And I'm not just talking about hair. I'm talking about: Skin bleaching(that shit looks stupid), fake nails(that shit is cancerous), contacts( they scratch your eye balls) But on the serious tip that shit goes deeper than you think. It sadens me to see these women who claim to be so proud be so ashamed of the way they were born. Is this a mental thing and will it ever stop?

Re: For the dudes who love women with dreads..add on..The never ending dreadlock thre

This thread makes me homesick, honestly. I'm from DC/MD (PG), and I've been here in Cali for damn near 10 years. It's RARE to find black women without a weave or perm, and when I left the east coast, the natural hair trend seemed like it was making a comeback. In LA, When you DO find black women with locs, they're usually into non-blacks dudes.

I've actually gotten to the point where I'd rather NOT date any woman as I am 1.)madly in love with sistas, and 2.)love natural women that LOVE black folk.

so yeah, this thread has created a bunch of desktop wallpapers that keep me centered. This obviously hits deep as it validates something I already know: no women on the planet looks better than my black women. Wow.

the world is topsy turvy, black is really the "desirable look". We're the 3rd planet from the sun, it should be obvious why, but it's not because of all these man made distractions.

Man I'm from your neck of the woods. I live in ATL right now, Bohemian chick central, about to move to LA. I've got my fingers crossed that I can find a fine natural chick out there. I think it depends on what circles your run in. A lot of them are lesbo out west, east coast too...

I was browsing on match.com seeing what LA has to offer, and mistakenly searched woman to woman. I saw tons of natural hair, and a hand full of dimes amidst all the daggers... I corrected the mistake and searched for hetero girls... only seen about 3 of 4 dreads... shame for a city that large. Nowadays Id rather date outside my race than deal with a chic with fake euro hair.

Re: For the dudes who love women with dreads..add on..The never ending dreadlock thre

The rastas called them dreadlocks. It was not a name given to them by white men. It was a name Rastas coined because of the reaction that white people had when they saw them. As a 15 year DREADLOCK vet, I prefer the term. I do not like "locs". Some afrocentric person made that phrase up probably because they wanted to take the fear and tension away from such a strong statement and still be able to wear their hair natural in front of the corporate types. I don't fear the explanation so I call them what Bob called them...

Oh, and here is an acquaintance that I BEEN wanting to smash...

Steps

The following describes the backcombing method. There are many methods used to create dreadlocks and I suggest you research these fully before making your decision as to which method you will use.

Wash your hair with a residue-free soap

Start by parting the hair in the middle, or wherever you normally part it

Begin to section off your hair with small rubber bands. You don't need to remove the bands before backcombing but it is recommended that you do. This will make your dreads a little harder to keep separated in the beginning but it's worth it.

Each square section should have about the same amount of hair. The amount of hair in the section determines the size of the dread. A one inch by one inch square is normally a good medium lock. The sections and rows may be visible in the finished dreads. This is normal, but as your hair grows together and thickens it will become unnoticeable. Try to keep the size of the sections as uniform as possible if you want uniform dreadlocks. However if you like the messy, unorganised look then just grab random sections of hair and get dreading.

Get a metal-toothed comb such as a flea comb you can find in any pet section of any store. Backcomb, or "tease" the sections of hair working in one inch sections rather than the entire length of your hair. The trick is to very slowly let a hair or two slip on each stroke forward. These loose hairs will get pushed towards your scalp and start to form a dread.

Pack the hairs in tight by pressing the comb firmly against the newly forming dread on each stroke.

Roll the dreads as you go to make sure they come out round. Make sure the knots closest to the scalp are as tight as you can get them.

Blunt the ends of the dreads if you don't want wispy ends. This is done by smashing and the tips repeatedly for a round end

To keep roots tight, hold each dread about an inch away from the scalp... press toward the scalp, and rub in clockwise circles.

Tips

To avoid the "wet-dog smell" stereotype of people with dreadlocks follow a few simple suggestions. First, do not begin to dread your hair until it is dry, otherwise you will begin to acquire a musty aroma.

Clean your hair. It is not true that having dirty hair will help your dreads. In fact, the oil just lubricates the hair, making the forming and growing of true dreadlocks difficult.

If you ever want to lose your dreads there is an alternative to chopping off all of your hair. Some companies (Knotty Boy, for example) make emergency dread removal kits that untangled and deep-condition your hair. Your hair will probably need to be trimmed afterwards to get rid of split ends, but the dreads will be removed.

The entire dreading process will make your hair seem shorter. The average length is about one third of your original length

Many things can be done to decorate your dreads. They can be dyed, beaded, and felted to spice your locks up

Do not worry, all hair can and will lock without products or work. Just sit back and let your hair do its thing

Warnings

Do not use wax. Wax just holds hair and makes it look like dreadlocks. Wax can stay in hair for years and will not completely wash out.

Don't believe everything on knottyboy and dreadheadhq. They are companies who want money, not happy customers with a head of beautiful dreads

Rubberbands are BAD! If you leave them in they turn to gunge in your hair and you can never get them out! Use them only for sectioning, take them out before backcombing and do NOT put them back in!

There are various reasons why black women perm or put weave in their hair. Centuries and centuries of brain washing and lack of Self-Knowledge. We've been well conditioned not know ourselves and to not love ourselves. So many black people in the US as well as others around globe want to assimilate into the white culture(so-called superior culture) and dismiss there African roots. But black people particularly in America had our culture stripped away from us, our original language, names and even the way we treat our hair was lost and forgotten. The media plays a vital role in this. When you turn on the tv you see eurocentric beauty, when you look at a magazine you see eurocentric beauty, same with movies and all other forms of media. And all of that plays into our minds. Things seem to be changing, I've notice a few women where I live rock there natural hair. So there's still a glimmer of hope.
