Sofa Control 1.0

sofa.jpg

Six Buttons - No Limits
Apple ships a Remote Control with the Mac. The remote control talks simplicity. Only six buttons are available.

The pre-installed functionality is limited to control just a couple of applications. Sofa Control breaks this limit. With Sofa Control you are able to control any application on your Mac and trigger the actions you like. Sofa Control gives the control back to you.

Out of the box Sofa Control ships with support for a number of applications like Keynote, Powerpoint, Safari, Preview, Acrobat, VLC, EyeTV, ...

Multi-Clicks: When six buttons are not enough
You are using a Double-Click with your mouse. Why not double-clicking the buttons on your remote? Sofa Control maps actions to these multi-clicks where they are useful. All of these actions are accessible through a menu, too. So you can start easy and become a pro pretty soon.

Learning by doing
Sofa Control introduces itself. On the first start it will present a short tutorial. It's easy to follow and explains how to use Sofa Control. After you start Sofa Control all you need is the Remote Control. Give it a try.

Control your Mac from your Sofa
Use your Remote Control to open documents, videos and more while resting in the sofa. Sofa Control provides an application switcher, big menus and a file chooser to make that possible.

Adjust the volume, use Exposé to switch applications or look up the weather forecast in Dashboard. All with your Remote Control. These kind of operations are just a button click away. The Global Menu makes them easy to access.

You are using an application that is not supported yet? Thanks to the virtual mouse you can control that application, too.

Props to Losbreal and everyone else for all the good shit they've dropped in this tread. I am a new Mac user --and I mean brand new mac user. I just got a Macbook Pro 3 weeks ago and think that I might have made the biggest mistake of my life. It's taking me twice as long to do anything because I've spent all my life on a PC and the macs way of doing things is so different. Can any of you recommend some sites or books that can help someone brand new to a mac? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah you should man. Its a good investment. I use to bitch about the RS thing in general and how you had to pay for it, but when you think about all the programs and porn you get for free it's an extremely small price to pay for all you get. I cant think of anything else better than RS these days or has as good of an return  .

I literally have 1000's and 1000's of dollars of software for free b/c of RS and since Im a video editor I constantly need the latest shit (programs, plugins etc). Anyone who complains about 10 dollars a month either is cheap as fuck or has their priorities backwards. Just sacrifice that value meal or lotto money for a day and get something that's gonna help you instantly.

Also, if you want to offset the cost just charge someone ten dollars or whatever for some program that you got on bgol for free.

GO get that account BR, take it from me you wont regret it. And when you get it, go to options and change the settings to direct download. Then as soon as you click on a RS link it'll starts immediately downloading without you going to the site and through all that premium bs.

Mac OS X Tiger: Missing Manual by David Pogue
Publisher: O'Reilly Media; 5th edition (July 1, 2005) | ISBN-10: 0596009410 | CHM | 6,7 Mb | 847 pages

You can set your watch to it: As soon as Apple comes out with another version of Mac OS X, David Pogue hits the streets with another meticulous Missing Manual to cover it with a wealth of detail. The new Mac OS X 10.4, better known as Tiger, is faster than its predecessors, but nothing's too fast for Pogue and Mac OS X: The Missing Manual. There are many reasons why this is the most popular computer book of all time.

With its hallmark objectivity, the Tiger Edition thoroughly explores the latest features to grace the Mac OS. Which ones work well and which do not? What should you look for? This book tackles Spotlight, an enhanced search feature that helps you find anything on your computer; iChat AV for videoconferencing; Automator for automating repetitive, manual or batch tasks; and the hundreds of smaller tweaks and changes, good and bad, that Apple's marketing never bothers to mention.
Mac OS X: The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition is the authoritative book that's ideal for every user, including people coming to the Mac for the first time. Our guide offers an ideal introduction that demystifies the Dock, the unfamiliar Mac OS X folder structure, and the entirely new Mail application. There are also mini-manuals on iLife applications such as iMovie, iDVD, and iPhoto, those much-heralded digital media programs, and a tutorial for Safari, Mac's own web browser.
And plenty more: learn to configure Mac OS X using the System Preferences application, keep your Mac secure with FileVault, and learn about Tiger's enhanced Firewall capabilities. If you're so inclined, this Missing Manual also offers an easy introduction to the Terminal application for issuing basic Unix commands.
There's something new on practically every page, and David Pogue brings his celebrated wit and expertise to every one of them. Mac's brought a new cat to town and we have a great new way to tame it.

I'm trying to get my video editing and video production thing off the ground. Just started looking into some DV Decks and other equipment. You got any advice, Reffering to Equipment or advice in general? What you know now that you wish you knew when you started.

To be honest I have no regrets b/c I knew what I wanted to do from the start. Plus I mess with DV as well as film so that has opened up alot of doors for me as far as music videos, national commercials, movies etc etc.. I worked closely with alot of people you see on TV and Im only 23 but thats b/c I knew what I wanted and honed my crafts in all areas of that specific niche so i could knock on as many doors simoultaneously as possible. For starters you have to know what your plans are when you get this equipment. I cant say how many ppl I know have brought all this expensive ass equipment, do one shoot and then that shit collects dust in the closet for the next 5 yrs till they sell it on ebay. Its a hard business to say the least.

I have no problem helping you get started with this shit in a good way but make sure you're ready to take it seriously and be prepared for the ups and downs depending on which road you take. Its not by accident that 80% of ppl with degrees in TV/film end up doing something else.

Any of the equipment you get, as far as cameras in particular, really depends on what you're trying to do which I dont know. So answer these questions for me so I can get a feel of your plans so i can better help you out:

Do you plan on trying to do weddings, music videos, local commercials, short stories, hood videos, or porn shit mainly?

Will this be ya fulltime job or a second hustle that eventually you would like to make ya main gig?

any experience whatsoever like schooling, had a camera when you was a kid whatever whatever whatever?

I take it you're from brooklyn but if not where do you live (very important)

Also have you brought anything yet?

You want to work with DV, HDV or film first?

Finally, are you in it for the money, the passion or both?

I know this is alot of questions but it helps me to know so I can help you if you serious.

peace.

There's something new on practically every page, and David Pogue brings his celebrated wit and expertise to every one of them. Mac's brought a new cat to town and we have a great new way to tame it.

"just sit there and press shit"... gee thanks, I would have never thought of doing that. :hmm:

Here's some sites I was just hit off with. Hopefully they can help someone else out as well.

Web-based tutorial aimed at Windows users that have switched to the Mac:

Mac 101 guide:

Useful Mac keyboard shortcuts:

Good drop. That should solve all the beginner problems for anyone else.

I know this is alot of questions but it helps me to know so I can help you if you serious.

peace.

I want to do movies and music videos but, to start generating some funds right now...Weddings, local commercials, hood DVDs etc.

I would love for this to be my main gig but, because I have minimum eqipment and need money coming in now...any time I'm not working or in class I wanna devote to my craft.

I have a minidv camera, I took a class at BCAT in field production/Avid Pro and am currently preparing to take, Production for TV, Audio for Video & Special effects in Avid. I'm waiting to here back from the Ghetto Film school and have sent in my application for media arts/film production at my local community college.

Yes, I live in Brooklyn

Yes, external hard drive, video camera, macbook, digital camera and external dvd burner... just the basics to get started doing a lil' work

I want to learn everything popular with studios so that I cn have a wide range of knowledge...right now I'm using DV, I have no experience with film

Passion, I've always loved movies, I use them as a way to escape my life and live another for a while but, I'd be lying if I said the thought of money doesn't come up
