i really don't understand all the pent up animosity some cats have towards the clintons. to say you would rather see a republican run our country, that will kill every social program that aids black america, versus voting for hillary is just plain wrong.

real talk. a clinton administration can do more for black people than obama. simply, because obama would have to combat the stigma of giving favors to blacks, while clinton would be truly indebted to minority groups.

hate all you want, but if either of them win we're in good shape, so the idea of cutting your nose off to spite your face is truly ignorant. vote for whomever wins the democratic priamary, plain and simple.

I'll ask you like I asked 1 of my friends that are a Clinton supporter. Please name 1 thing that Bill Clinton did that benefited the blacks specifically???? He has been getting back to me on that for a month now. Don't say economy or jobs, that benefits everyone. Don't say no President did. LBJ passing the Civil Rights Bill, Roosevelt ending the Jim Crow laws are examples.

well, i can give you two things off the top of my head. Dude fought with a republican controlled congress to revamp AFDC and bring forth TANF. Alot of the welfare reforms during his administration brought in an element of personal responsibility and time limits. He fought hard to break the idea of a welfare mom without killing 'welfare' like republican wanted.

he also created a neat little initiative called the empowerment zone program which was block grants on crack, that went to predominately black neighbourhoods to help fund initiatives designed by the residents of those neighbourhoods and not the government.

i'm not here to 'support' clinton, but at the same time i'm not gonna say that his administration didn't do ish for the black community, cause it did.

the same question could be asked of obama: what has he done for the black community??? can you name one thing??

the question is really a red herring, because what we should be concerned with is what can be done to move our country forward, and i believe obama AND clinton have something to offer and i would be if either, or both of them took over the country.

and on the flip side, for you republican lovers, if mccain wins like most people argue, don't get it twisted, he's very conservative, and a big military man. you might feel safer overseas, but you'll feel like shit in the hoods and barrios across america. real talk.

Welfare in this country is a joke. And by the way, 70% of people on welfare are white so who was helped more?

it's not about who has it helped more -- it's not a zero-sum game -- but it's about how many were saved from falling through the net. for all it's issues, welfare reform during the clinton administration saved scores of black families.

more specifically, look at a program like hope vi, that was implemented in many housing areas/communities that were more than 95% black. it was transformative and NEVER would have made it in a republican administration.

again, i'm not here to defend clinton. my point is black communities ALWAYS do better during democratic administrations and what troubles me is somehow folks are painting Clinton as the devil reincarnate and going so far as to say they want a republican administration if Obama doesn't get the nom. to me that is counter-revolutionary.

i'm all for good trash talk and am happy with the ENTIRE democratic field, so say what you want about Clinton, but don't say we would be better off with any continuation of a republican administration.

I can agree with you about republicans. I will vote democrat regardless of who the candidate is. The reason people are getting mad at Hillary is because she is doing more name calling than actually talkin about policies and principles. For a while Obama was not firing back but she is taking shit a lil too far and then Bill Clinton has got in on it too. I thought Bush had fucked it up for republicans in this next election but with all this bickering and name calling goin on with the democrats, you never know what is gonna happen.

Here's the problem. Hillary is trying to play race politics knock Obama out of the race. For that - and that alone - she should not get our vote.

People keep trying to ignore the obvious. She's basically took a shit on Black people's head with the way her and Dollar Bill are treating Obama.

And after she's done tearing Obama apart, she expects ths Black folk to come and vote for her. If we have any SELF RESPECT as a people we will either stay home or vote for the Repub nominee if Hill wins.

At this point it aint about issues, its about self respect

The only problem with that is not voting or voting republican will fuck us over more than having Hilary in office. Its like the lesser of 2 evils.

Is there a question in that?

i guess a series of questions. at the heart of the matter is why all the animosity towards the clintons.

and i guess more so, what do people expect obama to do for 'blacks' as president???

there was an interesting point edwards and clinton made in the SC debate regarding obama. regarding universal healthcare, obama was starting from a position already conceding he wouldn't be able to provide universal healthcare. he was willing to sacrifice principle and negotiating space before the battle started. and as pres, that type of flexibility won't get ish done.

i like obama, but he has yet to give me the sense he has the capacity to go to the mat and fight the tough ideological battles looming. and i think that's why you find a number of black folks uncomfortable with him and supporting clinton. it's not cause they're sellouts, it's because they feel the clinton machinery can make things happen.

i have no doubt obama could create a great machine, but at it's core, can it truly fight the opposition? fast forward a little bit and realize this: the next president will have their first two years controlling congress, they will lose both the senate and the house in year 3 (history show this trend), can obama really fight the hard fight daily against fox news, the republicans, and evengelicals??? in all honesty, will black folks still support him??? will his presidency only be notable cause he's black??? who knows. but these are questions i don't see a lot of people willing to ask/answer.

This is what troubles me. this is like those dave chapelle skits: when keeping it real goes wrong!!!

For one, clinton is doing what politicians do. I think she's actually been quite tame with obama. and what's troubling is that people have already caught feeling and feel things are racial. believe me they're not racial yet. wait till the republicans get a clear shot at him. recognize, obama is a grown ass man. he's handling his and will continue to. i think self-respecting black folk need to handle theirs and vote what's best for the country when that time comes. and believe me, it will not involve republicans (unless you're a business owner, or make more than 300k a year).

Co-sign the bold part. A big business owner at that. The 2 groups of people that arent affected much no matter who is in office are those living in poverty and those who are rich. Poor people are fucked regardless and the rich have bought off so many politicians that they will always be safe.

:smh:

let me see if this logic makes sense:

i would rather alienate myself from the political process or pursue a path that could be harmful to myself or my race, rather than vote for the person who would do the most for me and my race out of all the candidates, including the candidate i support?

just wow. :smh:

Logic is pretty straight forward - no self respecting black person will vote for hill after what she did.

But I dont think things are over. I still believe Hillary will lose for what shes doing.

God dont like ugly

Billary has proven to me that they will do any and everything to get in power, and that includes stepping on the intelligence of Black people with their recent tactics. I'll all for the Democrats taking over the whitehouse... but I'm not sure I can vote for her like I had previously planned in case Obama lost the nod.

Dude you make no sense. Are you insinuating that the blacks had the most to gain from the welfare system???? Do your research. Whites benefit the most from that system that sounds like a comment a white racist would say. The roles of blacks on welfare is somewhere between 25-30% of the total claims.

Now, fought a Republican controlled congress??? Any Democrat would have done that. Empowerment zone was an attempt, but there is NO evidence that it did anything. It made good sound bites though.

As far as Obama he worked in the Inner City of Chicago trying to help the community. How can you ask the question of what he did for blacks and compare him with a man that was the leader of the free world for 8 years. The argument has no merit. Let him be President for 8 years then ask the question.

Blacks are so used to being ignored and treated like shit that if a white man come on a black TV show "act like a brother" play the saxophone all is good with the world. Massa like us he really really like us. I don't know what to say about some of my people.

You peeps gotta believe what you want.

I was so angry when they asked Obama (in the SC debate) if Bill Clinton was the first Black President. That is an outright racist question and the Black people who have said that should be ashamed of themselves. Yes, Bill Clinton was a politician that we liked but to call him an honorary Black man, as if we would never have a real Black President, was very upsetting to me. It speaks volumes about what we think about ourselves...

:smh:

Hey, anybody got that picture with the Clintons with Tony Rezko? Remember, he was that slumlord that so repulsed Billary Clinton that she thought it would make good campaign fodder to bash Obama's relationship with him.

Oh, and the simple answer to why I do not like the Clintons is that they are liars and have been caught lying vehemently by ABC news and the like. Plus, I think that their foreign policies when they were in the White House were racist (i.e. assisting in the Boznia conflict while letting the Rwandan genocide slide.)

Oh, and their entire campaign is to alienate Obama is merely the "Black-male" candidate.

Black people need to have "Hope" and believe in themselves and one another. That is the way we will succeed. Vote for the Clintons if you don't mind being used by them.

word. :hmm:

As I read all these replies, I'm seeing the Plantation mentality. I'm really torn between who I'm voting for but if I vote for Obama it won't be simply because he's black. All the mud slinging is politics as usual but that's politics, 97% bull and 3% real. What we have to do is get to the 3%.

We keep saying what Bill did for blacks, but remember Bill is not running. I don't think the question what he did for Blacks, because no matter what you do in politics it's very difficult to benefit on race.

Obama is saying change, but to me he's not saying how he's going to make that change. It's easy to see what's broken in America (8 years of the Bush administation), but tell me how you are going to fix it. That's what I'm not hearing from Obama.

Now to those who say they'll vote Republican before they vote for Clinton, now that's stupid. I'll sum it up this way, put a republican back in office and let's all SIT BACK AND WATCH OUR TROOPS CONTINUE TO DIE FOR NOTHING. DON'T BE STUPID BLACK PEOPLE.

i'll break down the statement so they can make sense for you.

1) welfare: during the late 80s and early 90s, society held the perception that welfare was for BLACKS. all of the popular media painted pictures of welfare moms and superpredators (young black males). the moynihan report came out and furthered this push, even among members of the democratic party. that welfare needed to be gutted because BLACK people were making a career out pf public assistance. yes, scores of reports cam out showing blacks weren't the main beneficiary, but perception was it was for BLACKS. the undercurrent during the whole period was inherently RACIST. So for anyone to get the reforms through that the clinton administration did, had to fight first through the hatred that was fed to america about blacks abusing the system.

2) empowerment zones: more than sound bytes it's one of the few programs that actually had EVIDENCE to show it was making an impact. so much so that the UK copied it when blair came into office and it was the cornerstone of his third way policies (New Deal for Communities). and it worked so well, that the bush administration GUTTED it and turned it into a tax rebates program for businesses. and therein lies the rub. policies and programs that are proven to have a social benefit are always raped by Republicans simply because they were created by dems.

the argument about fighting republicans is relative. of course both sides will always fight, but where dems are willing to set up the goals posts is what we're concerned about. again, what troubled me is it seems like obama was/is willing to give up field advantage on certain issues near to democratic hearts before the battles even begin.

asking what he did for blacks is fair, because a line of reasoning out there is that as president, he would do a lot for blacks. i think its a flawed argument for several reasons. one, like a point some even try to make with clinton, is that most policies don't effect blacks only and there's very little that can be 'done for blacks'. two, as some people have even brought up about the campaign thus far is that obama also battles the perception of being a 'black president' and does not have the political capacity to do anything that could be construed as doing anything (favoritism) for blacks. and that unabashedly is a product of RACISM. irish politicians do things for the irish, catholics for catholics, jewish for jews. the blacks in congress that do things for blacks are marginalized. simply, 'that will never play in peoria.' (despite the fact your boy's from illinois).

it's not a comparison between (either) clinton and obama. it's saying all of them can do the job.

in all honesty, i think the most powerful thing that could happen to the democrats is if there was a clinton/obama ticket. the whitehouse would be locked for 16 years and two powerful machines would join. but unlike rodney king, i don't think we can all get along. :smh:

One reason Hillary Clinton should NOT be president: RUSSIA. Below is a link to a 2 year old story that hits the nail on the head about what Russia is capable of. Russia is not just a military threat; it's also a global player in energy. Russia has vast amounts of oil, and is the world's largest exporter of natural gas. The Russian Bear is even more aggressive 2 years later. Vladimir Putin is forming an energy cartel with Iran, Venezuela, and a couple of other nations who do not look upon Washington with fondness. Do you think that Putin would let a woman counter him from bringing world prestige back to his part of the world?

Damn. Swore I wouldn't get back into these presidential debates again

so you're saying we shouldn't have a female president because russia wouldn't play nice with her  that's sexist.

also i think this is flawed reasoning seeing the two people that had the most constructive dealings with post cold-war russia have been albright and rice.

and just on some 'self-respect' tip, i would never let another country dictate who my leader can be. :smh:

Holmes, in case you don't know...this is a MAN'S world. We might play that women are equal shit here in America but them boys over there don't play that. Sexist or not it's real. When Russia starts exerting pressure on the EU, who get much of their oil an the majority of their natural gas from Russia, what do you think will happen? When Iran starts to shut off the oil faucet and the European economy starts to dry up like a water hole in the Gobi Desert will the EU have confidence that Hillary can get the job done? If China joins that Russian/Iranian/Venezuelan Coalition and starts to call MIZZ Clinton on that trillion dollar credit card they hold...need I say more? Call it sexist if you want. I call it reality.

If John McCain is elected do you think Putin will be as aggressive? It's about perception. Even if it's a fatal flaw, a powerful man will ALWAYS believe he can defeat a powerful woman...in war and in wits

The Clintons are very corrupt. Just keep in mind....they will lie to your face and pretend like they give a f*** about black folks. At least you know what you're getting with the Republican party.

They get big $$$ from the same people who give Bush $$$, don't forget that. Their loyalty is based on cash.

The quotes below aren't mine but they drive home the point that we are severely disillusioned if we believe the Clintons have done so much for Blacks

During the Clinton administration, more Black Americans were incarcerated than ever before in the U.S ( not including chattel slavery of the past and present day mental slavery).

The 1990s were supposed to be a period of boom and prosperity. Black unemployment fell to record lows, but most of the jobs were low-wage service jobs that were quick to go when the economy took a turn for the worse.

Moreover, the expansion in low-wage jobs did little to offset the record high number of African Americans who were imprisoned during the Clinton administration.

Although African Americans cannot be deported, they can be permanently removed from society or at least for long periods of time through the court system and Clinton saw to that with the enactment of mandatory minimum sentencing, three strikes, and truth in sentencing—all interconnected and intertwined with the war on crime and drugs. These also coincided with the reduction of the state in welfare expenditures and in increase in state and local funding for the construction of new prisons that fueled the prison industrial complex. There may not have been money for public schools, job training program, healthcare, and food, but there was money for prisons and jails. Again, these are associated with Reagan-Bush presidencies, but they were carried over and made harsher under the Clinton Administration.

As the crack epidemic heated up in many African American communities throughout the United States, the arrests, convictions, and sentences for drug-related offenses increased. Under new drug sentencing laws, judges now had little discretion in the sentencing of drug offenders. The rates of African American men and women who were charged, convicted, and sentenced for drug offenses increased under the Clinton Administration as judges were given little discretion in sentencing due to strict, statutory federal sentencing guidelines and mandatory minimum sentences for crimes that were committed three times.

Similar to the situation of deportees, community ties and family relations should have been helpful in obtaining a reduced sentence or keeping the person out of prison. This was not the case even for women who were pregnant, had small children, or were responsible for other family members. States also adopted truth in sentencing (TIS) guidelines that gave way to the construction of more prisons. Prior to the enactment of TISs, parole boards could determine the actual amount of time one spent in jail. A convict could be released early for good behavior while in prison and placed on parole. This changed with the war on crime and drugs and now both violent and non-violent criminals including drug offenders must spend a larger proportion of their sentences behind bars and parole is often restricted. A federal TIS law passed during Clinton’s administration in 1994 sweetened the pot for states to adopt truth in sentencing. They were now entitled to receive federal funding if convicted criminals served eighty-five percent of their sentences.

using your rationale, obama shouldn't get it because without question russians HATE black people more than they hate women.

russia and germany have a very constructive relationship. merkel and putin work well together. more so, putin will be a background player during the next administration.

i just honestly don't agree with this argument. :smh:

This situation might arise no matter who is president. Or it may never come off at all. If it does, I doubt if it will be a military confrontation. My feeling is that America will be weakened globally because of her financial situation and the growing dynamics of China, India, and Russia. Because we are highly dependent on a volatile region for our petroleum needs it makes us more vulnerable.

With our civil rights vanishing one by one, I'm wondering how long it will be before there's a civil backlash against the State & Federal Governments. That could be another factor where the perception of a strong leader is needed to keep things from falling apart, especially if the perception of weakness is projected beyond our borders

It's a bullshit question in my opinion because we are not electing a black president. Or speaking for myself, I am not trying to elect a black leader. I am voting to elect a man I feel has the mental toughness and as well as the mental clarity we need to lift up this nation. I'm trying to elect the next president of the United States. Not the next NOI boss. I think it's sad we are having trouble with the concept. We hate he racial shit but we continue to think about Obama in those terms.

Me, I could seriously give a fuck what bill clinton's supposed record of activity with black people during his term, and even less than a fuck about his wife who has NO track record with us. When you ask where are those 'programs" now they cannot be found and why? They were only political bandaid fixes that can be supplanted by any number of things including, a change at the whitehouse.

Personally, I am sick of good intentions. It's what the democrat party bosses have decided is the best way to pacify them "coloreds."

Bill is NO friend of black people. Bill clinton is an arkansas politician. His means to an end is to line his fuckin' pockets with cash and aquire power. That is it. He is not your friend and could give a fuck about anybody getting in his way.

Obama '08
