Footage from Heckler & Koch's factory trials of the G36 rifle, loaded with 100-round double-drum magazines, pushed to complete failure.

“The G36 was done so dirty by the Federal Ministry of Defence. The so-called accuracy problems came from fact that the Bundeswehr suddenly decided that the G36 needed to double as a light machine gun, and then was disappointed when it didn't hold zero after dumping hundreds of rounds through it. Notably, there isn't an assault rifle in the world that can do that, the ones that can are much heavier and called "light machine guns".

To save face, they begun searching for a new rifle, but they knew they'd look like fools if the G36 qualified, so they made the requirements impossibly high. The requirements they posted required a lightweight and highly accurate automatic rifle capable of maintaining accuracy during prolonged fire. But this is impossible, firearms design is a compromise, and you cannot maintain zero during prolonged fire without making the barrel much thicker which adds weight. Not only did the G36 not qualify, there was not a single assault rifle design on Earth that met the requirements. All 3 competitors that entered the contest entered with rifles that failed to meet requirements, and the Bundeswehr was forced to move ahead anyway. The 3 competitors and their rifles were C.G. Haenel with the MK556, Steyr-Rheinmetall with the RS556, and Heckler & Koch with the HK433. During the trial the Bundeswehr purchased a few hundred HK417's to as an interim rifle for frontline units.

At the same time, news of the G36's apparent flaws hit Lithuania, which was in the process of replacing their G3 rifles with G36's. The purchase was halted while Lithuania conducted emergency trials and requested all documentation, trial results, and combat reports on the G36 from NATO. Shortly after Lithuania concluded that the G36 performed as expected under normal combat conditions and only failed when automatic fire was used excessively; this is true for any assault rifle. Lithuania resumed their purchase and the G36 is currently their service rifle.

So After a convoluted sham of a program rife with disqualifications and lawsuits, the ultimate winner was: Heckler and Koch - the makers of the G36 - with a rifle that wasn't even in the competition to begin with: The HK416.

I really don't know what the Bundeswehr's goal here was, if it was to knock HK down a peg as it seemed initially by slapping them with lawsuits and dragging their name through the mud, it failed terribly. If the goal was to actually give HK a metric fuckload of money by choosing them for both interim and successor rifles, they succeeded. The HK416 is fast becoming the standard EU Assault Rifle.”

Nice, appears to be about 10 rounds/sec....no recoil from what I saw.... I feel robbed tho.... the fact that that German was doing that without a full helmet on...... and it didn't explode...... I was expecting that from you...... :hmm:
