Follow up: Who stopped using the N-Word?

Some cats just don't understand how ignorant they sound when they use this word.

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

I Slowed down on using it as an everyday Adjective like "motherfucker or dude or even homie"

If I say Nigga I usually mean NIGGA

It Kinda Stings to hear folks using it so casually

But I don't knock nobody...but If I know someone who is aware certain things I might mention to them about not using that word so loosely

Nope. Still use it. Though I know it's origins, the term isn't derogatory to me unless it's used by people who aren't black. It's the same calling a woman a "bitch", though most women take offense to it when addressed as such.

funny how many in this thread equate the word nigga with n-i-g-g-e-r,
thought it was supposed to mean something different, but I guess not
don't make me no difference, stopped calling myself ignorant decades ago

sunblessed aka black folk who still get upset over todays use of the word nigga are black folk who still allow white folk, to define words and meanings for them...

black folk have a history of taking words and flipping the meaning, bad is good etc....

we took a word and said fuck what YOU think it means, this what it means to us....

after all Niger, NGGR all that is far from anything negative my niggas,

If I am going to ban anything I will ban, white supremecist bullshit, toxic people, toxic imagery and toxic thoughts from my life..

banning the word nigga will not change your life at all, banning negative thoughts about you and your people will..

letting someone else define words for you, is a form of slavery..

you have the ability to change the meaning of words you know, or the ability to allow someone else to define things for you.

fuck that my niggas

Couldn't have said this better myself.:yes::yes::yes:

I don't... Even though after coming to this board and observing new examples of them... Still don't say it.

It might be insignificant compared to the vast spectrum of possible fucked up behavior, Its still a behavior and conditioning plot I rather defuse

For what it is worth, maybe we have been lied to about the TRUE definition of the word....

Negus (Ge'ez ንጉሥ, nigūś, Amharic nigūs; cf. Tigrinya ነጋሽ negāš) is a title in Ge'ez, Tigrinya, Tigre and Amharic, used for a king and at times also a vassal ruler in pre-1974 Ethiopia and pre-1890 Eritrea. It is subsequently used to translate the word "king" in Biblical and other literature. It is a noun derived from the ancient Semitic verbal root N - G - Ś meaning "to reign."

In more recent times it was used as a honorific title bestowed on governors of the most important provinces (kingdoms): Gojjam, Welega and the seaward kingdom (where the variation Bahr Negus 'King of the Sea', was the ancient title of the ruler of present-day central Eritrea) and later Shewa.

Both uses and the imperial dignity would meet in the person of a regional prince, Lij Kassa Hailu, third youngest son of Dejazmach Hailu Wolde-Giyorgis, Governor of Qwara province, by his second wife Woizero Attitaggab, who rebelled against Empress Menen and her son Ras Ali II the Viceroy, in 1845 and spent the next nine years alternating between rebellion and submission until he was proclaimed as Negus at Amba Chera, (19 September 1854), and after the battle of Derasge proclaimed himself Emperor 8 February 1855 and was crowned as Tewodros II, at Derasge Maryam the next day.

i think the word "nigger" was derived from the word "negro" by white slave owners.

"negro" is Spanish for "black".

"nigga" derived from the word "Nigger".
:dunno:

This is what we have been told, but consider Spain was once ruled by "Niggas" Al-Mansur
Black & King/One who reigns was probably synonymous.

Pay attention to this part of the definition: It is subsequently used to translate the word "king" in Biblical and other literature.

sounds like a good reason for whitey to hide the definition since the bible has been used as an instrumental part of religion and control of the masses.

It rhymes with it especially the way the Rastas say it - I've had afro-centric studies instructors try to make the connection to take the sting out of the N-word but Negus is contextually on a totally different level.

I don't use the word and I was in shock when I first heard about NWA at 18 - never heard anybody use the word in public prior to that. Something about growing up in NJ. I can site the Africa visit routine Richard Prior did back in '77 as the reason for me never using the word. I won't let it derail my goals if I hear it in songs, casual conversation or name calling. When I was younger I and learning to subdue my passions I used to check people when I heard the word and let them know I was in a desensitizing phase to block my emotions so I don't lose my cool at the wrong time if I hear it - most people respected that and I used that opportunity to make it a learning and growth experience for myself and others..

I never tried to stop.

"...My lips is like an oh-wop as I start to spray it, Sucka Nigga, nigga, nigga"

"...I throw sucka in the front for the niggas that front"

Did anyone ever figure out who made the brown paper bag test?

Niggas or Black people?

This is not a trick question.

Lets look it up right now.

Brown paper bag test

The "brown paper bag test" was a ritual once practiced by certain African-American and Creole fraternities and sororities who discriminated against people who were "too dark." That is, these groups would not let anyone into the sorority or fraternity whose skin tone was darker than a paper lunch bag, in order to maintain a perception of standards. Spike Lee's film School Daze satirized this practice at historically black colleges and universities.

Along with the "Paper Bag Test," guidelines for acceptance among the lighter ranks included the "comb test", which tested the coarseness of one's hair, and the "flashlight test," which tested a person's profile, to make sure their features measured up, or were close enough to those of the Caucasian race.[5]

Colorism is prevalent in the job application process as well; research shows that a light skinned African American male with a bachelors degree and mediocre experience is more likely to be hired for a typical job than a dark skinned man with a Masters in Business Administration and past experience in the field.[6]

Any thing goes out this bitch and its every man for himself...build your own circle.

The answer to my own question is niggas...niggas who thought they were better than niggas
based on them being closer complexion to Master....

If that aint the most NIGGA shit I have ever fucking heard.

Im sure they considered themselves upper class black people...

but they were broken ass niggas!!!

POINT BEING THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A USE FOR THAT WORD.

Had already slowed down before BO, but now I almost never use it. Only when I'm around kats still caught up in the "nigga syndrome" do I even get tempted.

Stopped using it and personally I feel better as a person as well. I kinda see the street culture as a curse on us designed to keep is down. I'm also getting a much better vibe from women actually speaking English over heavy ignorant ebonics.
