Floyd Mayweather Accuses Rap Industry Of Making It “Cool” To Be Drug Addicts

Are you saying it's okay to promote drug use as long as your getting paid?
No, I'm saying why at you expecting people performing for profit to have other peoples best interest at heart when the do what they do???

Drug use in music isnt new. We grew up listening to worse shit, than they have now. But unless your real role models completely wet the bed, you didn't go out and do the shit they said in the songs, right??? But cause it's rap, it's gotta be the root cause for all of our communities ills, when it's just a reflection of it. There are reasons for that, that have little to do with black people though. But famous folks won't ever go that far. Just point the finger at surface shit.

This ninja can barley read is he to be a role model because he can slip a punch??? Then why are rappers???

This a whole lotta deflecting to get around the fact that he's right about drug use being a popular theme in rap. That's a fact.

Never once heard a rapper promote drug use, and I don't consider weed a drug. Rocks stars are known for their cocaine parties and orgies which rarely included any black folks.
O'really ?????? You defiantly can't be serious!
Future 1st verse mask off

Yo

Then he's right about ALL FUCKING MUSIC and he should say ALL MUSIC. I swear ninjas ONLY come down on the easy targets. Should I say Floyd is popularizing illiteracy???

How about we as men do our best to guide and teach the young people instead of pointing the finger at "artists" trying to get paid??? We'd definitely see better longterm results.

True indeed. The challenge is positive has to appear "cool" and evidence of being successful to them. Sad it is that way but true.

I hate the defense drugs in music isn't new, that's a terrible defense. That's saying well they did so we should be able to do it.There's a big difference in what's being put out now compared to the music of the 60's,70' S, 80's involing drugs. Today's music is a lot worse than the music of today.

But if the radio is constantly playing these subliminal messages some young people will end up corrupted (hooked, seller, dead or in jail)

It's not worse, we're just older. It's not an excuse. It's a fact and for him, and everyone else to pin point "rap music" as glorifying it is obvious low hanging fruit. Is he right??? Yes... Much like me saying the fast and furious series glorifys street racing. Now that the easy part is done... What are we gonna do collectively to make it better, outside of the capt obvious statments???

That's where positive role models and environments come into play. Like I said, it's not new, we grew up on it too. Not saying it's how shit has to be. But they're artists trying to sell a product to their fanbase. It's not their job to raise your kids.

It sure ain't helping is it?
Point is .... the new generation is wrekless than the ones above them (so on & so on) think bout it in this song it's reapeated over n over n over again in rhythmic fashion. Now back then Bone thugs did it but it was 99% weed that they were saying. These drugs are waaaay harder than weed. These young niggaz are idiots..hell chicks these days GET DAMN NAKED SPREAD PUSSY ON FB GROUP SPLASH- just cause of the likes! In 90's BITCHES GOT PAID... see where the downhill is???

Parliment, Bootsy Collins, Sly and the family stone, was some coke sniffing, acid dropping, pcp smoking as people along with everything else.

Just part of the music game, I guess its true if your in a funk and need some creative expression to write a few songs get fucked up out your skull and that guitar keyboard will start playing itself
good point. just look at the way mike & prince (supposedly) died. :o

They even got dance to it......

:lol2:

Meanwhile he owns a strip club which is basically a way for telling women they don't have to get real jobs for a living, just take off your clothes and degrade yourself.

Shakin' ass is hard work. Not all women can make a glazed ham thump on command.

breh...future is one of the most popular rappers out today and all that nikka raps about is codeine....and dont get me started on the houston rap scene that ALWAYS talked about sipping syrup....

where have you been?

Mask Off song by Future...the first few words he chanting Molly,Percocet is one of thousand examples.

I think it's fine for criticize rap as long you balance the situation cause not all rappers promote that stuff or drugs but Lean syrup drinking has become a fashion statement

I spent too many nights sniffing coke trying to get right...wasting my life...P from Mobb Deep "Quiet Storm"

Back in the early 80's I remember going to middle school and seeing all he white druggies. They lived by the saying "sex, drugs, and rock and roll." I was a culture shock to us. There were no drugs in the black community back then. We only had a few older cats who smoked weed and drank beer.

Back in the day, the "druggiest" rap song of the mid 80s was by the first big white group the Beastie Boys.
"Slow and Low". You knew all the innuendo and hints were about some dope, and not "just" weed.

Even the rappers who talked about drugs did not do it in every song by the 90s.
Now, you can't listen to a whole album without more than half takling about getting high.
It does not matter if it is weed or not, getting the high is pursuit of doing nothing.
If your life revolves around it then you are doing nothing with your life

He can go straight to the boardroom of Time Warner and complain to all those CACs who encourage and financially support it

Don't blame the rappers cuz there are lots who aren't about that message, you just aware of the ones who are due to whose behind then

Agreed. I think Floyd understands that this is a cultural thing that has to change.

It is also no defense to say that this group or that group got really high. If their songs was not about drugs, that was not directly promoting their life.

Old School Rap was about rhymes, battling. A subgroup from this was the conscious rap which was a shock to the melanin deficient

Too Live Crew made lewd sex popular - shock value
NWA made the life of the streets popular - guns, gangs, pimping = shock value
South made partying in general popular. Bass and coming up - big ass speakers mayne, pimping, horrorcore

Now Today,
It's like this group of rappers out Today are really lames who have nothing of shock value to say but how high they can get.

If u consider it to be or not, weed is a classified drug. And hip hop condones it. But it is just a plant.

You don't even have to be "cool," just give off the illusion you give a shit, and put forth the effort. Spend some time with kids you don't know. I volunteer at a middleschool as a d-line coach football season. It doesn't have to be some earth moving thing we do. Just try. To allot of those kids a dude being around to talk to, that isn't trying to slip their momma dick is welcomed.

But... We wanna take the obvious stance, point our fingers and play self righteous......... That's a bigger issue. Some of these dudes probably got their chests poked put cause they think they're arguing the right side of things. But don't do anything for anyone but themselves and place blame on some rappers making music... Floyd included.
