I love this movement, but I hope we aren't naive enough to think that if black banks start receiving huge percentages of black dollars that the owners of these black banks won't sell out when banking giants take notice. Wasn't BET black owned until they become so successful that whites saw an opportunity?I'm gonna need to hear these bank owners say they're not for sale.

BET was never "black owned". Johnson got the money to start BET from John Malone with a 20% stake from the onset. By the time BET was sold to Viacom, Johnson and his wife only got 1.12 billion out of the 2.3 billion dollar stock deal. The rest belonged to other investors BET had acquired over the years who were white.

I agree - we should've been practicing group economics way before this like other ethnic groups.
Some black people needed to be reminded that we are all we got in order for them to take action. Most of these black people probably have comfortable jobs and live in decent neighborhoods. They realized none of that meant shit if you can go outside and get in your car and get killed by a race soldier.
We definitely need to keep the momentum going and branch off into other areas. Every morning we wake up we should ask ourselves " what can I do to promote black supremacy today" and act on it, b/c white supremacy never takes a day off. If we can get enough of us to think like that we can change a lot of shit.

I agree with ya all day brotha but like a computer we have been encoded with this bad virus! The virus teaches us not to love our own brotha/sista and fellowship with with our own brothas and sistas! No it should have to take all this stuff for us to get it in with each other..But like myself it took me a while to take the chains off my brain! A few years ago i started lookn for answers to questions and slowly but surely i found them! So at this point at least so of our people are starting to turn the corner a little and thats a big achievement! I hope we all can continue on this path! we still got a ways to go but i am in it for the long haul! I love it!

The reason for empowering black banks is not about having a place to put your money. Hell, one bank is no different from the next if all you want to do is save and write checks. The significance of a black bank is so black entrepreneurs can have access to capital. So its not as simple as just packing up your money and moving to another bank. I need black folks to stay backing other black folks for business ventures and economic infrastructure in the black community. All this selling out would be a waste of time if you're trying to build a solid foundation.
And there's nothing wrong with being cautious with your money. Has nothing to do with color either. Everyone on this board that has done black business has probably been burned. So I'm not gonna just go out and write Umar Johnson a check for his school without seeing certain things in place first, I'm not running out and putting my money in a bank just because its the fad thing to do right now either. I need certain assurances. Just last month I had to file a complaint against a brother for ripping me off on some rehab work. I wanted to support a black business and keep the black dollars in our community. Now I gotta go to court in another state and fight for my $3000 back. So maybe if you're at the nickles and dimes level with your finances you can throw money at a bank that may or may not sell out to crackers in the future thus putting you right back in the white man's pocket, but I'm more discriminating with my dollars and a lot more serious about black infrastructure.

What I point out is that the first instinct is to not trust. We have to break that to build the foundation.
Trusting the engineers/architects proceed laying the first brick.
If if we capitalize on the wealth created in the interim we can in mass move.the finial influence if that bank falters on our trust.

Aye man it's a start.. Sometimes the naive needs a kick in the ass to take things serious.. Black dollars will do just that especially when it's used effectively
