A stunning number of Ferraris must be recalled as a result of a brake issue that stems from a bad brake fluid reservoir cap. The problematic component can be found in vehicles that left the factory this year and has been in use since 2005.

In all, Ferrari is recalling 23,555 vehicles in the U.S. in order to replace the brake fluid reservoir cap, which may not vent properly. As a result of this, a vacuum can be created inside the reservoir, which could leak fluid and lead to a partial or total loss of braking capability.

If left unchecked, a vehicle affected by this issue could lose all of its brake fluid and become unable to stop, which would dramatically increase the likelihood of a crash and consequent injury. Fortunately, once the fluid decreases by 50 percent, a warning light will appear on the dashboard and later model vehicles will show a message reading “Brake fluid level low, Go to dealer slowly.” An audible buzzer may also sound in certain models.

The following models are included in this recall:

2005-2009 Ferrari 430
2005-2011 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
2009-2017 Ferrari California
2010-2011 Ferrari 612
2012-2016 Ferrari FF
2013-2017 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
2013-2015 Ferrari LaFerrari
2015-2017 Ferrari California T
2016 Ferrari F60 America
2017 Ferrari F12 TdF
2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta
2017-2020 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso
2018-2020 Ferrari GTC4 T
2018-2022 Ferrari Portofino
2018-2022 Ferrari 812
2019-2020 Ferrari 488 Pista
2020-2022 Ferrari F8 Spider, Tributo
2021-2022 Ferrari Roma

Fortunately for Ferrari, the fix for this issue should be pretty straightforward. It will simply replace the reservoir caps in all affected vehicles with a new model that has been designed to vent properly.
In addition to sending out a notification to owners to come in and have their caps replaced free of charge starting on September 24, the automaker will also get in touch with owners to let them know about this issue and tell them that if the low brake fluid warning light comes on, they should pull over as soon as it’s safe to do so and contact roadside assistance for help. The automaker is also working on a new message to display within the vehicles when brake fluid gets too low.

Doesn't seem like that big a deal
Right.... I'd just go pick up the new cap design and change it out.

Who knows how hard it is to access though on one of those cars.

With everyone coming in all at once, appts are going to be out for months!!
