If he is a person who don't have a problem spending $200 -$300 on a date with someone whose company he enjoys a lot then it's worth it. If this is something he can afford then it's no big deal. I have come to the conclusion that nothing is better than the beautiful experiences that you have created while you can. If you have ever experienced any kind of serious illness or had any life changing experience then you will know what I mean. You will look back at things you have done and those are the things that will bring joy and happiness to you. You will have the pictures of the memorable dates or concerts or the joy you brought to someone. Those are the stuff you will close your eyes and picture and smile when you are in pain. The more of these you can create then the happier you'll feel.

early in a relationship we are observing...we watch your patterns...how much u spend on us..and so on
as time goes on...we will expect more

thats why as men u have to be real careful in setting a precidence with your behavior
if u always answer your phone or call at a certain time...we are going to expect that...and when u dont we are going to get upset
if are a big spender/wine and dine type dude from the jump....we are going to expect that to continue and exponentally (sp) grow with feelings
besides in this case...its only been 2 months...2 freakin months!!
i cant tell u how many guys i thought was amazing till about 6 months who turned into totally assholes
ol boy needs to slow his roll...if the female is worth it she wont be going anywhere and he can have all the time in the world to buy her $300 perfume

I don't think the perfume is a great gift nor do I think buying her something expensive is also (and it still depends) but if he is paying for an experience then it is worth it.
At some point during the date if he hasn't already told her he can reveal to her what he is about. If he is being honest with her she will know where he is coming from and
she can respect that and decide whether she wants to run with him or break.
Going by your rule dude would have to go to the Jill Scott concert (its at the Fox Theater in ATL) by himself or sit in lousy seat and don't buy her any drinks if he went. I don't buy into that shit. If you have the money and you want to enjoy it and she is a part of it then go for that shit.
If she wants to interpret shit incorrectly then that's her fault.

I hate Valentine's day with a fuckin passion and we all know the day is comercialized and we're brainwashed into buying shit because of it but I'd say keep it simple! something like this...
- have a bouqet sent to her job (don't go over $70 cuz you just met the jawn)
- somebody mentioned already, cook for her. just make the environment relaxing and sensual. soft music or a cool movie
- candle's every fuckin where!!! spend about $30 to $50 on them shits alone! that and some cool jazz or R&B sets the mood by itself.
- the whole evening is about her so when she gets off work, tell her that tonight she does nothing but relax and enjoy the evening you have planned.
when she comes over hand her a glass of wine take her shoes off her tell to not move all night, that you'll be doing everything for her tonight.
- after dinner have a dessert of some kind and feed it to her slow (kinda simpish but you gotta do it right if you gonna do it)

UPDATE: my lady friend has requested that i take the day off from work on the 14th.. so i guess she has something special planned on her end.. i took the advice and cancelled the perfume idea.. my homeboy is promoting a comedy show that night.. so what i'd do is order a dozen pink and red roses.. my homeboy is going to pick them up and during the show he'll have her called up on stage a presented with them.. she's seen the tickets so she knows we goin' to the show.. the flowers should knock her socks off.. the arrangement i picked is huge.. thanks for the advice.. i know it's early you'll but us island dudes do it big from the jump.. wish me luck...
