They waged a propaganda war against them before moving in on them. I have seen these tactics used against me in a very sophisticated and coordinated manner.
1. They talked about stories about Native Americans having the land and being forcibly removed which greatly diminishes their claim. You want the right to use land that was stolen from other people? Stories about Native American plight are never heard in the media.
2. They deny your ability to speak directly to people. Almost no reporters were on sight doing interviews. This prevents a human connections from being developed. They will read statements or show a static picture.
3. They interjected their own opinion that Oregonian did not want them. They found somebody that rejected their presence and use that to represent everybody.
The government is corporate controlled, having the government control land or resources is preferable to big business than dealing with private interests.
