Like a door that may or may not open, the prospect of Fargo’s fourth season has been an open mystery for over a year, its existence dependent on creator Noah Hawley’s increasingly crowded schedule, the remaining stock of philosophical Midwestern morality plays, and the approval of the FX brass. With Hawley between seasons of Legion and bandying about cryptic details about a season-four period piece, the final Fargo puzzle piece fell into place this morning, when FX boss John Landgraf announced the show’s renewal, the fourth installment’s premise, and its star: Chris Rock.

“I’m a fan of Fargo and I can’t wait to work with Noah,” Rock said in a statement released during the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Specifically, he can’t wait to head up one of two warring Kansas City crime families—one black, the other Italian—in 1950. As you may remember, the Kansas City Mafia played a major role in the show’s second and best season, the primary antagonists to the Gerhardt family and employers of Fargoall-star Mike Milligan. Here, the underworld that mafia runs will be thrown into disarray when their leader unexpectedly dies during a routine surgery, complicating a peace previously brokered in an exchange of eldest sons, which leaves Rock’s character raising his enemy’s kid as his own. This will surely involve a lot of elongated vowel sounds as well.

Fargo is set to return to FX in 2019.

This will be interesting. Rock is a great comedian but not a good actor.
At all. He'll be good as a supporting character for comic relief, but as a main character, naaaah...The accent alone would be brutal.

Also would it be present day? I prefer the period seasons in the 70s and 80s.

They also need to figure out a way to bring back Mary Elizabeth Winstead for another bathtub scene

Ok based on the description they give we know that Rock is in charge of one crime family and he swaps eldest sons with the leader of the Italian crime family as part of a truce. Season 2 of Fargo is set in 1979, while this season is in the 50s.

In season 2 Mike Milligan is with the Kitchen brothers and Joe Bulo from the Italian crime family. The Fargo Wikia page lists Mike Milligan as being born in 1949. So I think Mike Millagan is Rocks son and possibly the one swapped to the Italian family, which would explain why he is with the Italians in season 2.

So Chris Rock is the Chalky White version in Fargo.

I gotta see this.

Is this show written by the Cohen bros?

Long time fan of Fargo, so highly anticipated but they just got away from the whole cop solving a crime thing? This season looks good but doesn't seem like a continuation of previous story lines but hey I'll watch it.

I don't think any of the seasons are connected.
Remember, they've all gone by decade so far.

Was reading the earlier article after I made my post, this era ties in the link with the Kansas City gangsters and the black crime syndicate. Bokeem Woodbine is in the season as well, so explains his past.

Its just there's usually the Fargo cop investigating a crime with "yaaaah" drawling talk and someone covering up something. This just seems a diff direction.

Wow! This show is really good! I never watched the series for fear they would ruin it. I watched the movie on vhs when it came out. Lol. That was my favorite movie that and Casino and Get Shorty...Menace II Society too. Those movies I don’t want touched by remakes (I believe they fucked up Get Shorty by making that series).

Anyway, I just got around to watching the series and I am like wow! This show is great. No wonder why it was giving GOT a run for its money during the awards shows at the time. I am on season two now and I am loving it. I like how they made season one about the movie, but changed some things to keep it interesting. I feel like a fool for not watching. It reminds of when I finally watched Deadwood the series a couple of years ago. I was like...where have I been. Very good series! Ok. Back to watching season two now. Goodbye.

I don’t remember seeing any alien encounters on season one. I see it in season two, which I am watching now.

I like how they put that into the show. In the 70’s alien conspiracy theories was running amuck back then. I love how that one guy is a conspiracy theory nut. The thing is it is all true, which is funny. I am acting like this shit was really made back in the 70’s. That’s how you know they did an excellent job with this period piece.

You can’t tell the series was made in the 2010’s. It feels like it was made in the 70’s. Man, this is a good series. I really needed this detox from GOT. I felt like nothing would ever top it. I feel like a putz for not watching this series when it came out. GOT had me really locked up like that. Lol. This is a very good series. Very binge worthy for the folks that haven’t watched it yet. It’s snowy and icy here in The District, so this has been a very good show to watch. I recommend this for companionship binge watching.

Glad you're liking the series. Agreed re: the hesitation to get into the series. I remember the articles and discussion before season 1 began ... people weren't sure about the whole concept of adapting the movie for TV, given how popular the mid-90s movie was. Fans were definitely glad they did the movie justice. Good cast(s) and plots each season.
