Fake DJing BUSTED...tell the truth..sometimes ya'll pretend to turn knobs just to look busy

What makes this whole thing funnier and sadder at the same time is that new CDJs literally have a button next to the tempo slider that resets the tempo back to its original setting :hithead:

A good explanation of what most likely happened to Grimes and what should've been done to avoid it besides relying heavily on the Sync button

All this goofy non sense . I miss the old shit when you just used records and relied on your ear . It eliminates all these wack button pushing non rhythm having fags. Cheating computer relying on trash ass fake dj’s

I hear ya. While the software does indeed make things easier, the skillset is still required to be a legitimate DJ. Can't get mad because the technology advanced. You can always tell who is only using the laptop for music organization and who's relying on extra features to shortcut their away around things.

As a DJ I hate how much social media has emboldened some to think it's easy to be a DJ and all they do is press play. Seeing them playing pre-recorded mixes or abusing features to skirt around actually doing work just scuffs my Timbs. That's why videos like what happened to Grimes make me chuckle cuz real recognize real and the fake ones always get exposed.

both of these post are true
props to those that learned the art on analog decks & worked their way up to digital gear

lets not rehash the whole sync button issue. Yeah there are a lot of videos twisty knobs during the whole song. NO SONG needs to be twisted all the time. That's a dead giveway if they are twisting the knobs more than once during a track, then they are faking it. nothing complicated about it. not every song, mix, etc, needs to be constantly adjusted. mofos are mixing to a pre recorded mix.

Thats not true at all.

I'm a closet dj.... I use a ddj & a multitrack board application to mix & blend records & throw in sound effects that I can control via the time line.

I think they do the same shit & pretend like the mix is live. Smfh... sad.

Not only is she doing absolutely nothing with that prerecorded mix but the gain structure on that mixer is terrible as well. Practically in the red the entire time. That's how you blow out speakers and sound like trash from distorted sound.

That's a good way to get fired from the club. Also a good side hustle for DJs who can "fix" a sound system. Owners hear the distortion and think their speakers are ruined when all you really have to do is turn down one of the many volumes.

My friend is a wedding DJ, and he uses all the modern equipment for gigs, but I went to his house and he has crates of records and old school turntables to make his mixes.

The technology is supposed to enhance the craft and elevate the culture. The African in me wants to know why would an elder artist turn against the technological change?

Some people are purists and either don't want or don't know how to adapt to change. There are plenty of new features I don't or refuse to use because I feel like they do more harm than good to what I'm trying to accomplish. Also some of the new features ends up becoming a crutch that some DJs end up relying on, especially newer DJs, and they end up not knowing how to get by using the same fundamentals that those new features are based on whenever the features malfunction.

Are crutches only for cripples? I’m from the land of the Moko Jumbies though. Okay, you the culture-maker purist may not have any use for it today, are you aware of the events of tomorrow?
