I thought that too, but he's about to get on the elevator and fell back out.
He's lucky he didn't drop underneath it when he did. Looks like his legs swung under the the car as it was going up and he was holding on to edge.
Even if it was on the first floor there's still a decent drop to the bottom of an elevator pit.
