Excerpts from Thompsons Speech

I'm not gonna post the whole thing, but I will post some lines that stood out to me that prove that the RNC is going to be full of Republican propaganda...

give me a tough Alaskan governor who has taken on the political establishment in the largest state in the union -- and won -- over the beltway business-as-usual crowd any day of the week.

Let's be clear ... the selection of Gov. Palin has the other side and their friends in the media in a state of panic. She is a courageous, successful, reformer, who is not afraid to take on the establishment.

She has run a municipality and she has run a state.

the size of the state means nothing if it has one of the lowest populations.. that's like saying that if you can govern Antarctica you can govern NYC :hmm:

Ronald Reagan was John McCain's hero.

:hmm: Reagonomics sucked@!!

History making in that he is the most liberal, most inexperienced nominee to ever run for president. Apparently they believe that he would match up well with the history making, Democrat controlled Congress. History making because it's the least accomplished and most unpopular Congress in our nation's history.

The Democratic controlled Congress is cleaning up the crap the Reps left behind.. someone is leaving out details... :smh::smh:

Cleo, I'm hoping the last 8 years of republican control and corruption is finally about to end. I'm hoping for change and it has nothing to do with Barack's running. I'm saying this because I can't even watch the RNC. I'm tired of the lies and insults.

I'm hoping the democrats gain the majority control in both houses. It's time for change because what the republicans have done to this country is criminal.

More power to you for even watching.

I can't say I watched, but I saw some quotes from his speech on CNN so I looked up the transcript and read it. They will not get my view!!! LOL

but like you i truly hope people aren't stupid enough to let the Republicans back in control.... If the past 8 years have taught us anything... its that change is necessary.

I actually caught his speech. Great speech.

Fred Thompson is a phenomenal actor. :hmm:

And has anyone seen his wife. :hmm:

Fred Thompson is a phenomenal actor. :hmm:

That's what I thought about the speech also.

I think the OP is not looking at the big picture enough and perhaps to much of party voter more than an issue voter. I believe she is so party bias that she is failing to see when or if something the Republicans do is a good more or not. I have observed that she like many have seen everything the Republicans do as a negative.

I was prepared to vote for Obama because I hated McCain but when Obama dropped the ball on the the issues especially the oil. I through my hands up and said that's it I am not voting. Then McCain start discussing the issues and they are more in line with mine. Even then I still had planned on voting for Obama. But he keeps being late for the issues and when he is not late he is not saying anything.

I remembered something I learned in high school some of you party driven people could learn from also. My high school English teacher assigned the book by James Baldwin called "Giovanni's Room". When I started reading the book I realized that the author was gay and told the teacher I didn't want to read it because I was against homosexuality. He told me that I have to put my believe aside and read the book because it was the assigned book for the class and I have to write a report on it and pass or I fail the class. He would ask questions on the book each class to make sure we read it. For the book report he ask us to write why the book is seen as a great American literary work. I had to put my beliefs and disgust for the lifestyle and write about the book. One of the ways I was able to do that is put the characters in a framework that was palatable for me. ie. Think of it as male female characters.

The lesson I took from that class was that even though something is not your thing if you look at it from a different frame you can see the genius in the situation and give it the praise that it deserves.

Even Hitler was a genius.

Fred Thompson blasted Obama and the Democratic congress and everyone knew it. If McCain could get him on the attack like this and the Republican machine kicks in like it did for Bush second term they are going to totally outshine Obama's campaign. Take away all of Obama's mojo

Of course you'd get Republican propaganda, just as the Democratic convention had Democratic Propaganda.

The best way to deal with this is to look past the talking points, ad campaigns, popularity polls, and deduce it down to the issues the stances on the issues and how it impacts you.

All of the speeches are geared to a certain segment of the audience so they won't necessary move you or even apply to your point of view but at the end of the day your are voting on issues, policies, and beliefs, not speeches.

you know whats sooooooo funny about this election. I'm looking on the main board, other forums, and I see everyone trying to find a little bit of dirt on Gov. Palin. McCain got everyone shook with this pick.

Shit is comedy....

Party Bias?? If someone did something as a Republican or said something that I agreed with I'd have no problem giving them their props. But as someone who has their own stances on certain things how is it biased to disagree? Am i wrong when I saw Alaska isn't densely populated? How is that biased? Am I wrong when I say Reagonomics sucked?

How can you support a candidate that wants to bring about more of the same? There are plenty other viable candidates that could have been chosen? Huckabee? Romney? I am looking forward to the debates to see how these candidates, both Republican and Democrat respond. Biased by no means.. informed yes.. opinionated yes.. Republicans are mud slinging as usual and the Dems aren't really getting to the issues... but that doesn't change the fact that she is unqualified in my opinion... If i was a republican I would be offended he made this choice. What is genius about McCains's campaign? Is he not offering more of what we have endured over the past 8 years?

Frankly, you have exposed your own bigotry in your "example." To not want to read a book because the author, one of the best in African American history was gay?? I guess you didn't like Langston Hughes back then either..

Shook? :lol::lol:

I swear, republicans are the most aloof, inept, dellusional muhfukaz I know. I can extract more rational thought and analytical reasoning from an eastern Malaysian dung beetle.

I challenge any republican to outline any position, on any issue, in any context, which they hold and support, that makes any intuitive, empirical and rational sense.

The logic is elementary.

Republican = Voted for and supports Bush and his administration.

Bush.

George H. W. Bush.

hahaha. You still don't get it. It was a brilliant pick. During the primaries I thought like you that the other candidates were better than McCain and thought McCain won because of maybe cross over Democrats but it seems they made the right choice.

You couldn't have scripted a better movie

Cleo, unfortunately there's a huge percentage of our population that vote blindly for their party. (My Dad was a republican) The issues that Americans face everyday are of no concern. I met one black woman who admitted she voted for Bush because he spoke of the Bible. I told her Bush's actions have been anything but holy. Talk about being hoodwinked and bamboozled. :smh:

Just look at the facts that were ignored during the last election. People are stupid and many will again vote blindly, both republican and democratics based solely on the fact they've always voted for that party.

Being involved with voter registration for this election has opened my eyes to just how foolish people are when it comes to politics. My only hope is the people will come out to vote. The last election was decided by only 42% of the population.

The fact that she founds something good with the Republicans is much better than a lot of folks who for years have been voting for Democrats because some black leaders who were Democratic puppets kept telling them that it was the only party to vote for as a black person. They kept telling them that as a Christians they should forget issues that were important to them and vote blindly for Democrats. Also, if the second amendment was important to you, you should forget about it and vote for the Democrats. It's amazing that you seem not to care that people are voting for a party based on issues that are important to them but only on the fact that they are not voting for Democrats.

When a black person in this day vote for a Republican after being virtually crucified by folks in the black community it's not because these people are sheep. It's because they have thought about the issues and narrowed it down to things that are most important to them.

Your kidding right?? Dems push Christianity?? Republicans are die hard Christians, which is why Romney didn't make it as the forerunner. Which is why they try to paint Obama as a "secret Muslim." You're calling people out for supporting Dems while painting yourself in the same light but for the republican party...

Your are giving oeople some serious discredit. Over the past 40 years Dems have been the one who have pushed for better rights for African Americans, which is why some feel so loyal to them, not because of "some black leaders who were Democratic puppets kept telling them that it was the only party to vote for as a black person. They kept telling them that as a Christians they should forget issues that were important to them and vote blindly for Democrats."

The only thing this lady did was focused on was she related to which was the christian aspect preached by the republicans which proved to be a lie.

If she did as you say she "thought about the issues and narrowed it down to things that are most important," then I pray she never uses her judgement again if this is what it means when she thinks things out.

I fail to see where the republican party is anymore religious than the democratic party. Yet these weak minded people suck up their crap like a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner.

Republicans talk a good game but actions speak louder than words. Their actions indicate they are only about one thing OIL, and if necessary they're willing to kill everyone on the planet to get it.

Here it is for you man since you don't know the Christian issue. "ABORTION"

On a side note, how much of a politicians speech do you think they write themselves? I mean, we all know that they hire professional writers to "assist" them, so how much of what we hear on tv, or read for those who bypass the actual speech in favor of the transcipt, are the actual thoughts of the person delivering them??

I would bank on the candidates having teams that scour flim footage of speeches and read every article and quote that's written. There's no way a candidate could put together a speech like the one Obama made or have the time to do so.

I'm sure they all do some tweaking of the speeches and then they are probably reviewed by the legal council before we hear a word spoken from the speeches.

Bush has lowered the bar like a muhfucka!

I don't hunt moose in the everglades, or fry penguin liver with snow mobile lubricant. Sorry you can't "identify".

Democrats are religious fundamentalist ideologues? Da fuck kind of expired dried turnip greens you smokin?

OK Lucy, you're not a sheep. So, what issues are most important to you do you you feel that a McCain/Palin ticket will address to make you're life better?

Funny thing we (4 of us) collectively spoke with this woman for almost a half-hour and not once did abortion roll off her lips. Don't assume you know everything about something you know nothing about.

BTW she stated her voting republican was a mistake and she would not make that mistake again. So chalk up another republican christian who has seen the light and has joined the democrats. Stated she's voting democratic this year. Guess she got tired of republican lies.

It's the job of the toastmaster/toastmistress to "translate" the subjects thoughts into something, that the public, can concieve, as the speakers true words, when spoken...

Go and check the definition of elitist again and go back and read the posts about non Democrats and you will see how I come to the conclusion.

We keep on straying from the topic of the post. The speech was a good speech and that's that.

See that second paragraph. Shit made as much sense as eating cream of wheat with chop-sticks. :hmm:
This is exactly what I've been saying about the ineptitude of Republicans. Dropped the ball on the oil issue? Oh, I get it, "let's drill baby drill!" because gasoline obviously comes out the ground ready to go. Da fuck makes you think the same oil companies fucking us now will have a sudden change of heart "oh shit, more oil means we got more shit to sell so we can sell cheaper! Supply and demand right!?:D
:hmm:

Once again. What are some (or at least one) of the positions of Republicans on the pertinent issues (fuck all the bullshit like gay rights or abortion) that have you caping up?

LOL. You've proven my point about being elitist by insulting the intelligence of the Republicans again and it's continually the thing that I see on this board. You believe that you are your other other Democratic colleagues are smarter than the non-Democrats and you should therefore rule while we go hide in a cave somewhere and shut up. The trend on the board is to insult and bully anyone that is not a Democrat and it's been like that for a long time.

As far as the pertinent positions
Energy independence, lower taxes, war.

These may not be important to you but they are to me. I am not here to change anyone's mind. The reason I post is because I have a disdain for the mindset towards those of us that are not Democrats. Trust me bro. A lot of us have thought about the issues that are important to us and voted that way for years. You best believe when I hear the talk that we only going to kill the top 5% with tax and I working to be in the top 5% I am going to pay attention. You also better believe that I am thinking after they have taxed that top 5% and it's OK with everyone they are going after the next tier.

As far as your not thinking drill, drill, drill works then you don't understand how the markets work. The price is based on perception a lot of the time. The price is often what the perception of the future supply and demand is. I believe this is explained enough on this board so I unless you want me to explain it then I wont bother to go into it. Since Obama changed his tune to where he says he is open to drilling, the traders perceive that regardless of which party wins they cannot use the justification that there will be a shortage since drilling will take care of that shortage. OPEC doesn't want us drilling since increasing the supply will reduce demand for their products. Alternative energy would also cut in their bread and butter. Now that it seems McCain has a chance to win and people know it can take less time than the 7-10 years that the Democrats lead people to believe (it's been proven by the Brazilians and other countries with less red tape) the speculators have come out the market and the sellers (OPEC) are selling at lower price and are OK with it. The lower price is above $80 which is OK for OPEC. They prefer not to have new competition because that takes away the control they have over the market.

Lots of factors in there bro and that's not even all.

Anymore off topic stuff that you have for me open a topic in the politics side and I'll be more than happy to address them. This side of the board is supposed to be BGOL lite for me.

Like I said, you Republicans are extremely narrow minded, highly prone to prejudice (of all forms) and reactionary.
Let's address you (and your Republican colleagues) position on the issue of energy. A stupidly disguised unsustainable approach. Typical of Republicanism. And who do you think, especially in the short term, will further exploration and drilling benefit?
Perception is the sole factor that influences oil and gas futures market eh? Increasing supply by drilling exactly how many new wells will increase demand?Actually, I would like you - with your wealth of expertise - to explain the dynamics of this to me. Who exactly are the "people" that you say "know" that it will take less than 7-10 years to realize the effects of drilling at the gas pumps? I'd like to know. While you're at it, maybe you can pull up the corroborating stat that suggests that Brazil's energy consumption mirrors that of the United States. I'm saying, since we're comparing apples to oranges.
"The lower price is above $80 which is OK for OPEC."

^^^

Yeah, and I guess the other confounding factors like the weak ass dollar and emerging markets and energy needs in Asia Pacific should be ignored.
See, you myopic Republicans seem to be allergic to sustainable policies and that's why we're in the fucked up mess we're in now. Instead of focusing on ways to decrease our dependency on fossil fuels (clearly an "elitist" philosophy ), ya'll got red-neck, hill-billy, bumpkin ass fools yelling USA! USA! USA! Like idiots.
Yeah, let's drill right here off the coast of good-old South Carolina and not the Terrorist Gulf Coast! USA! USA!! USA!!!

F.O.H.

You claim to be working to be in the top 5% eh? How's that working out for you? Hey, do you dude. But better believe that whatever opportunities, choices and freedom you've been lucky to get (to propel you to that 5% demographic) are not quite as readily available to the folks that represent the less fortunate 95% (despite what the fucking American Dream ideal promises ... but that's a another debate). Yeah, taxing the filthy rich white dirty ass aristocrats drenched in "old money", facilitated via nepotism and class segregation ... and the few scattered black and brown novelties or specialty products (your athletes and entertainers) is outrageous!
