Ex-Marine goes missing supposedly after Call of Duty triggered flashbacks

Eric Hall, a 24-year-old Floridian and retired Marine, has now been missing for a week. His friends say that shortly after playing Call of Duty (4, we assume), Hall "just got up and said that he had to go." He was last seen departing his home on a motorcycle, which was later found on the side of a road. The local sheriff's office claims that the man was suffering from hallucinations and flashbacks to his time spent serving in Iraq, where he was injured during a patrol by an exploding bomb, which did tremendous damage to the left side of his body, and reportedly decapitated Hall's best friend in front of his eyes.

It's not exactly confirmed that Call of Duty was behind Hall's disappearance -- after all, we found the story on Fox News, who has a less than objective view of video gaming as a whole. Regardless, we wish Hall's family the best of luck in locating him, though, as Hall's father pointed out, it's tough to find a Marine that doesn't want to be found.

Family and friends of an injured Iraq war veteran who has been missing since Sunday fear that the 24-year-old is covering his tracks.

Courtney Birge said that if former Marine Eric W. Hall does not want rescuers to find him, they will not.

Hall's family spent Saturday printing fliers, driving around and talking to anyone who may have seen him.

"He's a Marine," said Birge, who is married to Hall's cousin, Adam Birge. "He knows how to survive off the land and find food. We don't feel he is dead. We want him back with us."

The family is planning a search party today and is asking for help from anyone interested in helping them. The group will gather at 8 a.m. at Gilchrist Park, 400 W. Retta Esplanade, Punta Gorda.

The family is asking anyone with all-terrain vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, dogs, a helicopter or any other search aids, for help. They said people with military experience can also help with tracking and understanding a Marine's thought process.

Hall disappeared from another cousin's Deep Creek home last Sunday. He had recently stopped taking his pain medication for a serious leg injury he suffered in Fallujah, Iraq, three years ago when an explosive device nearly blew off his leg.

He has pins, rods and plates in his leg, Adam Birge said. Hall walks with a limp.

Since his injury, Hall has been fighting with the military for $4,700 in vacation pay. The Department of Veterans Affairs rated Hall as only partially disabled, which limits him to $700 a month instead of $2,500 in full disability pay.

Relatives believe he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. They say that before he disappeared, Hall was using his hand like a gun to shoot at imaginary people.

Birge said that before Hall went missing he also played the video game "Call of Duty." The family said the game may have triggered some unpleasant war memories. Hall's best friend was killed in the same battle in which Hall's leg was injured. He was nearby when the friend was decapitated.

"He just got up and said he had to go," Courtney Birge said about the day Hall disappeared. "He's a son, a grandson, a cousin and a brother. We are not going to stop until we get him home."

Charlotte County sheriff's officials found Hall's motorcycle last Sunday at Sulstone Drive and Pasadena Terrace. Birge said neighbors heard a man yelling in the woods near that area, and there was also a fire in the woods behind their home, which they believe Hall started. They found a Marlboro Light cigarette butt near the fire and said Hall smokes that brand.

Searchers plan today to cover wooded areas in Port Charlotte, DeSoto County, North Port and Arcadia. The search will continue until evening.

This is a shame. It just goes to show you that exiting service members didn't get the proper care they needed. The gov't continues to fail at providing adequate health care for its military.

Damn I gotta play that game...if the shit is that serious...

Unless you've been deployed to a combat zone, you'll never fully appreciate the magnificence of it. My only problem with Call of duty is that the game play is too short. And they don't get real gritty with the realism. Would be great to see body parts flying from explosions.

I'm beginning to wonder exactly what you DID do during your deployment.:hmm:

My deployments don't have me wanting video games to be more like them.

First time you see a HMMWV blown 30 feet in the air and the people inside vaporzed, you'll understand.

Food for thought, homie.

Obama '08. Let's end this shit, fam.

I know this is serious and I'm sorry to be laughing, but...

How in the fuck does a game make you snap into combat mode and start evading authorites!

That nigga in the woods right now looking for Charlie! :roflmao:

My homegirl asked me this same question. We have differnt experiences. She was on the ground in Iraq, and I was off the coast doing the navy thing. I can't imagine any vet wanting to play a game like this. Maybe halo because the shit is all in space in the future, but for COD4 No way.:smh::smh::smh:

As much as I like being in the military, I have seen 1 too many cats come back all fucked up in the head. We cent over a few spooks(intel heads) and they all fucked up in the head. 2 of them are getting out with serious mental health issues.:(:(

I'll be honest, I never seen any of my comrades killed in action. But, I have been shot at several times on patrol and while pulling over watch on roof tops. Came close to being maimed and blown up by IED's too. I consider myself lucky being in an infantry battalion. Lost a couple guys in 03, and had some people injured on the second tour. Active duty both times, and tasked to several units.

After coming home on leave from my second tour, everything scared me. Loud bangs, Aircraft(Mostly jets, but the shrieking is what had me fearful) debris in the road was a nuisance. I also suffered from nightmares that always had me being ambushed. It wasn't until I got over all the shit, that I finally played a war game since 05. Playing Call of duty has brought back memories, and that is what really compelled me to finish it to the very end.

Almost forgot that I tell alot of lies, and that this is a porn board so who really gives a shit.
