What many people don’t understand is that Puerto Ricans are a beautiful mix of races.

We carry African roots, Spanish heritage, and the legacy of the Indigenous Taíno people.

Sometimes people look at my skin color and assume I am only white or black without realizing the deep mixture that lives within me.
And that is what many fail to see.

I feel Black.

I feel Spanish.

I feel Indigenous.

I feel Boricua.

I feel Puerto Rican.

And I am also American.

I belong everywhere, because I carry a little bit of everything inside me.
And that is our true flavor… our sazón.
