slut or a lesbian, at least according to popular opinion.

I don't think it's done intentionally as a group but when you talk to people about Black female celebrities, they fall into one and sometimes both groups. And no matter what they do, you can't convince people otherwise.
Now if a woman is a lesbian, that's their business but Black women get that label before they're ever seen with a woman.
Angela Bassett might be the only contemporary exception.

Oprah-lesbian
Missy Elliott-lesbian
Whitney Houston-lesbian
Kelis-slut
Toni Braxton-lesbian,then slut
Halle Berry-slut
Nicki Minaj-lesbian
Ciara-slut
Queen Latifah-lesbian
Alicia Keyes-slut
Tweet-lesbian
Adina Howard-slut
Janet Jackson-lesbian
Mariah Carey-slut
These are just the ones I can think of off top.

I'm not defending any of these women because I don't know them but I am speaking out against the mindset that wants to force these women into a position or a role that's only meant to undermine their achievements.

I don't dispute the premise of this topic. There is a lot of truth in the sexuality of the people in question.

Many black female celebrities are sluts and lesbians. However. There are many sistas that don't come under the label.

Alfre Woodard
Vanessa Bell Calloway
Sheryl Lee Ralph
Raven Simone
Anita Baker
Tamia
Ashanti
Lauryn Hll
Jennifer Hudson
Taraji Henson
Brandy
Monica
Jill Scott
Teresa Randle
Debbie Allen

What a surprise another BGOL'er making degrading comments about successful black female celebrities.

Get a damn life. :smh:

Ya know? That is why I cant even entertain this topic.

You two didn't read the post at all or you read expecting something else and refused to make the mental adjustment. Work with me, folks.

Does this appear to be me making degrading Black female celebrities? Or me questioning why we do this to our female celebrities?
I'll answer, it's the latter.

???

You didn't read it either, did you?

Stop being victims for a hot minute and answer the question originally posed: why do we do this to our female celebrities? I'm not endorsing it, I'm openly condemning it.
I swear to the internet god, the women on this board are just like the men.

I'm not sure you exactly got me either. But with your list, a lot of those women are of the same status as the ones I mentioned and some of them got different labels which I added on.

These are not my opinions of these ladies. You either do stuff I like or you don't. But when I talk to people or read stuff about them, these themes come up and I'm almost speechless.

How about let society think what they wanna think....?

How did I propose to stop them. I will not apologize for wanting Black people to stop recklessly tearing down our celebrities, particularly our females. When a celebs does something destructive, that's one thing but the almost need to tear down Black women celebs is astonishing to me.
On the main board, joes were saying Nas was crazy for marrying a slut like Kelis, like Nas was lowering himself. NAS??!! I don't know who Kelis or Nas has had sex with but I've been in hotels with Nas and I'll bet everything I have or will ever have that his number laps hers but she's the slut.

Beyonce is...?

Good question. I can't recall Beyonce ever getting that treatment. Maybe the change is already underway.

How so? She's a huge pop star but how does that make her "White" or "assimilated"? Did she marry a White man or something? Getting White fans and big endorsements shouldn't be held against her.

Just because Jay Z isn't white doesn't mean a damn thing. Her white fans and endorsements don't got nothing to do with topic at hand.

The make up

The hair

Her appearance and actions in general do not show a sense of self pride. I'm not saying that chick gotta get a Black Panther card or rally with the NAACP but even Diana took off her wig for an album cover. People put on make up that doesn't make them three shades lighter. People get put on posters and when they are ridiculously photo shopped something is said...remarkably this chick said nothing.

She doesn't need to keep a dark skinned friend around for confirmation of her blackness but then again I don't see anything about her affirming it either when most of her outward actions move her towards a more caucasian appearance.

White folks like JayZ too :hmm:

Whatever that bullshit means. No one would ever confuse her with a white woman, 'cept in terms of monumental success.

That's a new low for you Blunt(s)

Good post, but everybody knows Monica and Brandy don't need to be on this list...:hmm:

And last I heard Debbie Allen turned out every chick on A Different World!

The obvious truth is???

Envy's a bitch.

It sure is but we don't know for sure if it's a man or woman...read up Blunt

I completely disagree with this. And it comes off as another way to chop down a Black female entertainer. So not being "Black enough" by your standard makes her "White".

I'm not trying to chop her down, no. I think she has a nice voice, (though I'd rather listen to Solange sing than her), but she do what she do and more power to her success and work ethic.

But looking at Destiny's Child and her evolution over the years it paints the picture of denying, (either consciously or subconsciously), who she is or at least resembles on the outside. This is just what I see in the media because if that little tidbit had been about me, (speaking of the make up thing), I'd be heated "Hell no I'm not trying to be white or lighter than what I am. This is me and this is what I am showing off to the world".

I will however acknowledge her homage to Josephine Baker in that video to that song that I really didn't like. If tat is the image she wants to continue to show, fine. She's going to keep making her money and I can't / won't stop it no matter what I do or say, but that is my personal opinion.

She however won't get any of MY money until she puts out an album, single, or movie that I really want in my collection. :hmm:

Okay.

I still don't see it, though.

And I'm even less of a fan of hers than you are. She can't trick me into buying anything she does. I even bought "Cadillac Records" used when a local Blockbuster was closing.

trick you into buying?

So, why don't you support her?

You know I could name off a suprisingly similar list with white celebrities. Public opinion is a bitch ain't it? That's why public people really have stopped giving a fuck about it.

Oh...

Lindsey Lohan
Britney Spears
Sandra Bullock
Cameron Diaz (spanish but passes for white)
Demi Moore
Madonna
Reese Witherspoon
Mila Kunis
Nicole Kidman

All lesbian at one point in their life according to media.

Interesting but some of them either have been in open lesbian relationships or had physical displays of affection with other women. That's not the case with the Black women I named. And with those White women, it's not used as a way to degrade them as it is against the Black women.

Reese and Nicole? Didn't know that.
