Ever notice how many rappers have names that reflect a childlike mentality?

There is also a lot of "Big" names, too.

Big Sean
Big Daddy Kane
Big L
Notorious B.I.G.
Big Pun
Big Boi
Big Tymers
Big Pooh
Big K.R.I.T.
Big Moe
Big Mike.....

Because most of them were minors when they started rapping.
Then, once you've built a career off of that name it's nearly impossible to change it.

No a lot of them be grown ass men already, and it's not almost impossible to change your name even if you built a career off of it. Where did you come up with the notion that it's nearly impossible? Many artists have changed their names over time.

Because it happened to me.

In 2011 local bar asked me to play a Saint Patrick's Day party for them. I chose a generic ass DJ name for the flyer because I thought this would be a one-off.

Instead it was a big success. It led to a residency and a lot of future gigs in other places. Problem is, now everybody knows me by that generic ass name. Changing it means fewer bookings.

If this can happen to a local DJ, imagine what happens if you're a rapper known across the country with thousands of people wearing your t-shirt.

In another thread I talked about Frances Cress Welsing’s theory of Black sexuality…well, she also talked about this exact same thing. Therefore, this isn’t a young generational thing. This is from generations ago. Also, it cant be solely blamed on being raised by women. That isn’t new and we need to make the fathers more accountable than shifting blame on the mothers. Add to it, why do we call homes “our cribs?” I do get and agree with the thought of sticking with the name that you’ve built. Still, there are far to many grown Black men who call themselves lil, little, baby, etc.

Flip side is, I have a mild dislike calling baby girls and girls “Lil Mommas” or baby boys and young boys “Lil Man” or “men.”

from Titty Boy to 2 Chains, if you want to change it, you can

Except now you have to rebrand everything which can go well into the five figures. Also, you're going to lose any fans who don't accept your new identity.

Yes you have artists who have switched up and still made it, but why put yourself through that unless you have to?

Folks who talk down because your name is Lil something or Yung whatever were never going to be fans anyway. So who cares?

As far as that whole infantile childlike mentality garbage, people are going to throw that at you just for being in show business. You could go out, tour the world, make half a million dollars in 6 months and the moment you get back there will be a whole line of people asking when you're going to man up and get a real job.

Straight up, I always laugh at rapper's names. Why not go by your real name? Is it a requirement that you have to have a 'rapper's' name? Just asking!

Growing up today in the hood, the only ones that seem to be doing OK are the women and the children, so why are we seem shocked to see so many of our young men growing up emulating ether being a woman or trying to remain a child. This is the inherent result of bashing critical thinking, self accountability, and self discipline, and other masciline traits, while promoting selfishness, individualism, matrialism and traits that are usually associated with children and women. A masucline mind would never allow himself to be refered to as lil, baby, childish or a kid, especially while refering to the white man as the "man"!

I don't agree, but at the very least you're the only person in this thread with a description of what maturity is and isn't.

That said, let's go over some of these negative traits.

Individualism? What else would you expect in a country where everyone is told to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps"?

Selfishness? That's the cornerstone of capitalism

Materialism? Noticed that nobody ever throws that label at Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos. Just the rapper with a large gold chain and fur coat.

It seems strange that individualism would be considered immature but self discipline and self accountability isn't.

I'd also like to point out that, generally speaking, nobody in this country is as infantile as the whites are.

Case in point. When was the last time you heard about someone getting "black man wasted"?

White people grow up with easier lives and a lot less consequences for negative actions. They don't grow up because they don't really have to.

That’s the current generation raised by women so go figure. Back in the days they had masculine names. They had surnames like King, Father, Man,Master, Big, etc.

You point out the highlighted part as if that is the issue.

The question now becomes…

WHY?

Why are we as Black men allowing that to happen?

That’s a subject that folks don’t want to discuss.

You are supposed to pull yourself by the bootstraps for your family and country (at least that's how they put it). Us blacks were one time like this, calling it the struggle, but today the term struggle or struggling has been reduced to a slur and insult to blacks.

Capitalism is about capitalizing on others selfishness and weaknesses to become rich and with the wealth they acquire is then used for power to influence and protecting their way of life.

Musk and Bezo are sellers not buyers of materials.

The concept of community and building nations escapes the comprehension of young children and immature thinkers, due to them not being able to fully understand whats best for the community makes things better for the individual.

True that whites can be infitaile as a collective, but are willing to make individual sacrafices to protect their collective, this is why so many of them are willing to lay down their lives for their beliefs, no matter how fucked up it may be.

Erick Sermon started doing it, because when they broke their contract, the label still had rights to their stage names, or so the story goes. After him, more and more rappers started doing it. I think Keith Murray was the first to do it after Erick.

When I turn on the news and see a KIA report the soldiers are disproportionately black. Dying for your beliefs is definitely not a white thing.

I'll go one step further and say it's not really a maturity thing either. That's why they don't recruit soldiers from the senior center.

As for Musk and Bezos being sellers I have four words, big dick rocket ship.

IMO, people tend to take more care of their communities and nation when they're able to hold a stake.

Case in point, go to a neighborhood of owners and a neighborhood of renters. Who's more likely to take care of their yard and building?
