ESPN - why even bother to rebroadcast games?

ESPN is a joke.

they rebroadcast about half of a game, editing down the content for time.

the shit is already in a bad time slot, running after midnight, so why not show the whole game?

ESPN running shit like we're in the 1970s again. tape delay and not even showing the whole game.

if you want to shorten the run time, why not edit out FTAs, time outs, sideline interviews, lead ins, and fade outs leading into commercials?

in tonight's replay of G6, they cut out part of Q1 and most of Q2. ridiculous!

Yeah...I'm watching this too.

I didn't realize they chop the rebroadcast the way they do.

NBA TV. (which is replaying game 6 in its entirety as I type this)

ESPN is pointless and much worse than NBA TV for re-broadcasted games and analysis

To answer the question, I suppose the ratings are higher that way than with six consecutive re-airings of Sportscenter.

Yeah there editing of replay games are a joke, they should take lessons from NFL Replay.

I actually like the ESPN rebroadcasts as/is. I can and do dvr the original broadcast but I enjoy the edited version. Cut out the timeouts and free throws and certain lulls in the game.

I want to see somebody actually try to answer the question then.

it is just filler material for a low ceiling viewership time slot. The current event aspect seems to draw a "larger" audience. You may have been at work or not able to view the game so the replay is there for you to see. Or maybe you get segments of the loyal fan base to tune in. BET/MTV does it with their awards show, etc. CSS sports does it with dozens of college football games weekly. It is just an extended highlight reel. If there is nothing better on and you do not have access to mobile devices, the internet, modern technology, etc. then you might want to watch it. IF you are up on the on demand outlets or only prefer to watch live events while in progress or their entirety, then you might not care to it.

Contractual obligations with the clients might also be the norm with this now, since it is kind of like the popular thing to do at the moment.
