An elderly Long Island woman shot her neighbor in the face with a flare gun during an argument inside a gated retirement community, officials said Tuesday.
Kathleen Schuman, 76, allegedly shot her 67-year-old neighbor during an argument outside their homes at the Belmont Vistas Senior Apartments in West Babylon on Monday evening, the development confirmed.
“We are aware of an altercation that occurred yesterday evening between two residents,” a spokesperson for Conifer LLC., the management company that oversees Belmont Vistas, said in a statement.

“This was an isolated incident between individuals — the safety and well-being of our residents remain our top priority.”
The victim, identified by NBC New York as Richard Cutrone, was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.
Schuman was also treated in the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The flare-firing septuagenarian was set to be arraigned in court Tuesday.
Police did not disclose what sparked the dispute, or why Schuman may have had a flare gun on hand.
