ree-agent safety Ed Reed is on the verge of joining the Houston Texans, according to multiple reports.

NFL Free Agency
The NFL's free-agent frenzy officially is under way, and ESPN.com will keep you updated with all the twists and turns of the signing period.

Reed, who has spent his entire career with the Baltimore Ravens, visited the Texans last week but left last Friday without a deal.

According to reports, the Texans offered Reed a 3-year deal in the salary range of $4 million per year, though Reed has been seeking a salary similar to the $7.2 million he earned last season.

The Ravens, who have seen significant turnover since winning the franchise's second Super Bowl, appeared interested in retaining the nine-time Pro Bowler.

"On the hopeful scale I'd say it's of high hope," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday. "It's high on the measuring stick. We'll just have to see how it works out."

Reed, 34, is the Ravens' franchise leader in interceptions with 61, and his 1,541 return yards with those pickoffs is an NFL career record. He was the NFL's top defensive player in 2004.

With Reed possibly on the move, Baltimore has also scheduled a visit with Raiders free-agent safety Michael Huff, a league sourced told Schefter.

ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

If he can hit and he's a ball hog do you need him to tackle too? I say that because receivers KNOW that he's going to fuck them up if they come across that middle or if he gets his sights on you. And QBs know that he will be any & everywhere that pigskin is.

Cant believe the Texans trying to make major moves.

D.Manning & Ed Reed as safeties = NICE!

Talk in Houston about us going after Ocho Cinco

He'll bring leadership in the secondary but I just hope he's got enough left in the tank.

I highly doubt Bob McNair will allow a dude like Cinco on the team. They need to go after Brandon Lloyd if he's still available. Texans better nail it the draft too because we lost a lot of solid players :smh:

I agree.

Got dammit Jerry

Ed fucking Reed is a free agent and you have no damn cap space

And don't nobody quote me talking bout he old or none of that shit

A 34, 35, and 36 year old...shit 45 year old Ed Reed is better than any safety not only currently on our roster but that has been on this roster in at least 10 years

Fuck outta here with that bullshit before it even starts

Spot FUCKING on....

We lost Casey, Barwin, GQ, Forsett, Alan Ball, and i think I'm forgetting someone. These dudes need Ed reed back there to shore up that d and be a leader in the locker room....BUT......

Matt Schaub is still our QB...

Yes they are. They blew up that team. It shows me that they aren't like teams Yankees, Lakers and other teams that spend that money to get that ring and say fck a luxury tax

And what this quote shows me, you have no fucking clue what you're talking about!

Unlike the NBA and MLB, the NFL has a hard cap and to operate like the Yankees and Lakers is impossible. This IS the business of the NFL.

Do some research next time before commenting on shit you have no clue about.
