no trade clauses have NOTHING to do with player clout, agent expertise, or any other aspect of deal wrangling. it was just a default option rewarding players who stayed with 1 franchise.
in the days of chasing the money as a free agent, players were simply switching teams too frequently to ever stay the required years to become eligible for the no trade condition to kick in.
