Dwight Howard for MVP?

Yes it may be early to speak about this, but the media outlets suck up to some players even in the offseason (*cough* Nash *cough*), but it looks like Howard may be on his way to an MVP season. 23.2 PPG, 15.1 RPG, and 3 BPG on a really good Magic team. They may have added Rashard Lewis, but Howard has improved his game a lot this year.

Who are your early season favorites for MVP?

Just saw Orlando play last week and while they are having a great season so far, I couldn't give Howard MVP. Don't get me wrong, he and his team are having a great season but I havent seen much improvement in his game from this season to last, especially on offense. The bump in his statistics come from Van Gundy changing the style of play that Coach Hill had last year.

If Orlando can maintain their pace and win their division then I'll say Howard should be a top candidate. I am impressed with their 11-2 record on the road because after last night, there are still 2 teams with zero road wins.

My top candidate would be Kevin Garnett just because his team isnt that talented outside of the big 3, and their turnaround has been much more impressive.

Second would be LeBron James because he's the best player in the NBA and still has his team competitive. Danny Ferry made 1 move in the offseason and the team is getting old yet they were still over .500 before LeBron got hurt. The Cavaliers got no help for LeBron over the summer, and instead of bitchin' about it like some prima donnas, he simply stepped his game up and put up 30-8-8.

So I got -

1) Garnett
2) James
3) Howard

Which should be shocking being that everyone knows how weak the Eastern Conference is.

That's cool to have the big ticket as the favorite...I mean by the end of the season, they may have a 30+ win increase from last year. He had a great start (20/10 every game for about 8 games) and has pretty much been that way for years, but the way that he's expanded the game of Rondo, Perkins, House and Tony Allen...that should show everyone how important he is to his team.

I agree with you on the Eastern Conference...It's a lot stronger than most give them credit for...I mean they got Cleveland, Boston, New Jersey, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit....you know the rest.

it's obviously way too early to say dwight howard is the MVP, but i will say that he's a legit candidate up to this point.

his productivity is through the roof, and his dunk stats are mind-boggling (yes, it DOES make a difference when you're talking about a 4/5 and he's MORE THAN double the next man). i concur with XF that parts of his game are still unwatchable, but he has time.

if the opposing D can put dwight howard on an island with his back to the basket, orlando will be in deep trouble.

also, the coaching staff gets big ups for the impressive start the magic are having, ESPECIALLY (as already pointed out) on the road. when you factor in significant lineup changes and a new system, it's all the more impressive. you have to remember that the magic have already played more than 25% of their road games.
