Drivers in New York City will now need to watch their speed a little more closely. That's because some areas across the five boroughs are getting lower speed limits. This week, the Department of Transportation announced the implementation of so-called "regional slow zones" where the speed limit will be lowered to 20 miles per hour. Those zones will be located in DUMBO, Brooklyn; Broad Channel, Queens; St. George, Staten Island; and on City Island, in The Bronx. DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said lowering speed limits, even by a few miles per hour, could mean the difference between life and death in a crash.
