Dread Loc Care Thread

Post started off slow, now the shit is moving! Although I've had my locs for over 20+ yrs, it's inspiring seeing brothers keeping up w/ loc care. Coming from the Caribbeans, it was taboo to style/care for yuh hair (as a man). Now the whole worl ah men becoming ah str8 gyalis lol

@playahaitian go back to growing your hair family. 5 months of getting nothing but shape-ups & not cutting my hair down. This video for your inspiration.

Keep doing yuh thang bredda @shaddyvillethug
Personally, I cut all my shits off 2021, saved it... had it washed & detoxed, and re-attached in 22 by my stylist (that use to do Pop Smoke braids)

(person in video not me)

Looking forward to having this next stylist do my hair. She's received excellent recommendations.

I get the acv done once a year to cleanse all the products out

I wish I would’ve saved my locs from my first journey

Not sure how true these videos are but it struck me to reply w/ these. Also not sure how mild to severe your halo is but I always believe ANYTHING is possible family. Start your locs and get those locs!!!!!!!!!!!

After completing some reading, sources indicate ginger, onion, & Jamaican castor oil is one true recipe for hair regrowth in any bald spot of scalp

The young lady that started my locs was more of a stylist doing locs my new provider is dope washing my hair in boiling T tree and shit ginger lemon and then doing a Deep conditioning

I'm not doubting them or saying they're wrong, but if someone created something that could make hair regrow they'd be a billionaire.

Jamaican Castor Oil is indeed a tool in hair health and growth.

BTW if anyone is looking for Jamaican Seamoss state side, let me know. I have a boy that does it personally and its 100% authentic.

Purple or gold?

The castor oil? Black Actually. Family swears by it for generations.

.

"Perhaps one of the best-known benefits of Jamaican black castor oil is its ability to improve the health of our hair. Jamaican black castor oil can help promote hair growth, moisturize dry hair, strengthen thin hair, prevent hair breakage and heal and prevent split ends. Jamaican black castor oil can be used on a variety of hair types — from thick and curly to thin and straight."

I’m 2 years 9 months in to having my Locs and need some tips on maintenance/upkeep.
What are some of your routines knowledge and advice?

Currently I’m dealing with Dry Scalp and build up from working out 4 times a week.

I don't know if it's been said already but, if you're experiencing build up you should be using less product throughout the week.

And stay away from any product that has mineral oil or petrolatum in it. Those will cause tons of buildup.

I've had locs for almost 20 years and this is some of what's worked for me.

Naw, the seamoss. But thanks for posting the info on Jamaican black castor oil.

What do you use that doesn't contain mineral oil?

No products? So what you wash with?

I'm asking because I'm thinking about going that route with black castor oil & natural as possible.

I dilute Dr. Bronner's with water. Sometimes I add acv, sometimes not. Some people really don't like Dr. Bronner's to wash their locs and some, like me, do. If you feel like it dries out your hair then you might wanna dilute it some more.

I wash with Dr. Bronner's sometimes, too, because I bathe with it, I dilute it 1:2. Never heard of adding ACV tho.

Usually it's when I know I need a wash and don't feel like the whole shampoo twice then conditioner routine. It does leave it dryer, but I deal with it
