I don't agree with Dr. Umar Johnson too much. But this time, I'm in full agreement with him.

I've discussed this with people on this board; some agree with me, but the vast majority of Democratic leaning people don't. The election will be upon us soon. The Repugs are imploding. The Demons want to give $1B to Israel and another $1B Ukraine. What are they talking about giving us? "NOTHING!" That's what.

My opinion: We (all Black people) should sit this election cycle out. What are your thoughts, BGOL?
(Also, can we keep it civil? I know that's a tall order for the board... I'm asking anyway.)

Suppressing and discouraging blacks from voting is exactly what the Repubs having been trying to do for many years, so they will applaud Dr Umar's message. The purpose of all these new voter ID bills they have been passing across many states, reducing early voting days, purging voter rolls, preventing same day voter registration, new vote by mail restrictions, and closing polling locations in targeted areas are to suppress our voting ability. The Vivek Ramaswamy guy has been openly campaigning on raising the voting age to 25 because the Repubs know a majority of young folks will not vote for them. I understand the sentiment to with hold our vote but being that we are controlled by a two party system that, its fucked up we are stuck with choosing the lesser evil of the two party's.

Another question that people need to ask themselves when thinking about voting is which party would you rather have picking supreme court justices and other lifetime appointments of folks that have direct effects on our rights and freedoms.

Nobody thought Bernie Sanders (who is really an independent) would come as close as he did to win the 2020 Democratic primary. Of course the Dems panicked and had to form themselves into a Democratic Voltron to stop him (unfortunately with older black folks help), but he got closer than anyone ever imagined. To me, this was a sign that we are on the right track.

Biden hasn't done anything for us. He's done more for the immigrants coming over here than he's done for us. The repugs... well, we already know that they aren't going to do shit for us.

I think we need our own party. But, we know that the creation of it is going to be slow and arduous. It may never come about because we'll be fighting like the repugs are now, trying to choose a Speaker. Hell, I look at what we say in these BGOL threads and I'm like "Got Damn! We can't even come to a consensus (or have a meaning dialog sometimes without it going sideways) here." But we have to start somewhere.

The Dems don't appreciate us. They feel that Blacks have to vote Democrat- they have nothing else, so there's no need to fulfill or make any meaningful promises to us. We can't even hold them accountable for their lies. And the Repugs take a no fucks given attitude when it comes to Black issues.

For me personally, it's a conundrum for sure. But I'm tired of getting screwed by both sides. I'm not voting for a President this cycle. They don't hear me when I vote. So I'm taking a chance that maybe they'll hear me when I don't vote.

The thing is, I don't hate Biden and I don't hate Trump either. I hate the oppressive policies that they put on us. And I hate how easily we accept them.
