Dr. Boyce: Jay-Z, Harry Belafonte is a MAN – Don’t You Ever Call Him a “Boy”

Stay with me gents:
I can remember a time not so long ago we were having this same type convo ab Mike Jordan, oh he needs to and his money and blacks this and that, top athlete needs to shoulder the civil revolution where Russell and Ali left off....now illuminati Jay has to make 500 mill and befriend the pres he selling his soul and he should stand up for black rights. Pres is the first black one I history he is gonna make life so easy for blacks now.. SERIOUSLY?? I appreciate peoples vision and views helps shape the world. You can not expect someone to do what you feel is right according to you...if you choose to put your career on the line for your own personal reasons, why if those reasons are not shared by the next generation is that wrong? in closing though and I do not mean this in a disrespectful way...if a LIVING LEG has not influenced someone to take the baton from him, isn't that his fault of not inspiring the next? IJS food for thought

ARGEED!!

So this whole ordeal started from this interview question:

THR: Back to the occasion of the award for your acting career. Are you happy with the image of members of minorities in Hollywood today?
Belafonte: Not at all. They have not told the history of our people, nothing of who we are. We are still looking. We are not determinated. We are not driven by some technology that says you can kill Afghans, the Iraqis or the Spanish. It is all -- excuse my French -- shit. It is sad. And I think one of the great abuses of this modern time is that we should have had such high-profile artists, powerful celebrities. But they have turned their back on social responsibility. That goes for Jay-Z and Beyonce, for example. Give me Bruce Springsteen, and now you’re talking. I really think he is black.

If I'm not mistaken when the writer asked about people in "Hollywood" shouldn't have Belafonte took a shot at a black actor or actress? Why just go on Jay-Z? It sounds like he mentioned Jay to get his name in the press. (Why not take a shot of Will Smith or Tyler Perry), oh beside they didn't have a hit record out at the time (Watch the Throne) Besides that I understand where Belafonte is coming from but belittling one of your OWN to prop up a white man (Bruce Springsteen) is no better. Black people love to take their own down...smh....

disrespecting elders is certainly a sickness of Black men these days, but also elders used to know how not to castrate other young Black men in the confines of white media looking for meat to chomp on. I'm sure its not that hard to find a meeting place, contact number of fucking Jay Z when your name is Hari Belafonte.

both cats came foul imo

Belafonte is a legend, but he too has multiple "human" skeletons that folks could sit and make a judgement upon

calling a grown Black Man "boy" is a problem on so many levels, its crazy how he has became everything hip hop "originally" fought against. just a straight corporate whore

This big lip muthafucka takes a swip @ Belafonte on record but did nothing when Robert DeNiro checked his ass @ a function for not returning his calls.

In many ways, Jay Z is still that punk kid from Marcy, who was shamed and dissed by his realities, that he grew up with that ''fuck ya'll, I'm about me'' chip on his shoulders.

Expecting that boy (now trapped in the body of a 45 years old man) to all of a sudden stand for something more than the drug game he so often glorifies, is asking the impossible.

His telling of pass drug dealing tales and bragging about his material wealth means more to him, than civil rights issue.

your no different than Jay Z, talking about another mans African features :smh::smh::smh:

and oh yeah Belafonte did not need to put that mans wife out there either, man to man, and leave it at that, imo

I don' understand how he Jay-Z gets a pass... because he's on some hiphop Forbes list??

Maybe because Obama lets him come to the white house?? (but don't try to be a rapper when you grow up )

Dude uses his gift to pollute minds just like a lot of other these loser ass hip hop artists.

Chuck D he is not.

Bill Maher broke it down on an episode a few weeks ago. He said he likes Jay-Z, but can't understand why his fans are in love with him because he constantly throws his wealth in your face and brags continuously. The psychologist he was talking or whatever said some people think they can have his success which is unlikely or they live vicariously through Jay-Z lyrics. It made total sense to me. I think this fits a lot of cats on the board because you constantly see people posting about jay-z on forbes lists, or dick riding ANY and EVERY business decisions Jay-Z makes.

Shit maybe i'm tripping but for the past 3 weeks i've seen nothing but niggas talking about how much they HATE Jay-Z and how they've never listened to his music and how they blame him and I quote "polluting the minds of our culture". I don't know where this shit coming from that he has fans on this site. I know its some on here including myself but we're a small minority.

People live vicariously through any music/movie/tv show/book they like in the duration.

The same reason CACs support the GOP platform, despite the policies often being against their own interests... and defies common sense. There was a Tennessee rep who proposed a bill to build a fence around Tennessee to keep out Mexicans. I don't need to refer you to a map to explain the colossal fail that proposal was, but it got a lot of public support. The dude knew it would fail in congress, but he also knew it would gain him support with voters. It did. The bill failed, but he won his election. Even when Jay Z's lyrics fail, he wins at the bank, thanks to his fans.

You're not tripping, Jay Z does catch a lot of flack from his BLACK fans, but his White/Non-Black fans keep him successful enough doing what he's doing to 'justify' him not doing anything different. It's not just poor Blacks living vicariously through him, it's middle class/affluent Whites who can relate to his boasts in their own way. It's as though he gets to say he things they're thinking out loud. Things like "nigga".
