Section of I-15 reopens after massive tanker fire near Midvale
MIDVALE, Utah - A section of I-15 is now partially open after a double tanker truck carrying 10,000 gallons of fuel exploded into a massive fire Thursday night.
The inferno shut down I-15 at 7200 S. in Midvale for hours.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the blaze started when the tanker's brakes sparked a fire.
The Utah Department of Transportation said two lanes of southbound I-15 sustained serious damage during the fire.
Crews put in a temporary asphalt patch overnight.
Drivers will be able to use the remaining two open southbound lanes on I-15 while crews make repairs.
The HOV lane is also open without any charge between 5400 S. and 9000 S.
The repairs are expected to be completed Friday, allowing UDOT to reopen all the southbound lanes.
No one was injured in the fire.
