Just because a culture or community is matriarchal doesn't mean that there weren't any men there. There are hundreds of such societies in Africa and Asia that work and have worked just fine for hundreds of years.

I dont know about this, it is still up for debate. In contemporary times matriarchal leanings are seen as women having majority power over the politics,economics,etc of a community. It is a reaction to the extreme form of patriarchy. To say that ancient or contemporary cultures have matriarchies simply b/c the women have more say is to judge it by the aformentioned extreme.
