Does he have the answer to turning the drug problem around in America?

Skid Row is a place nobody wants to be. It’s a place filled with despair and few glimmers of hope. Addiction and poverty run rampant as well as capitalist in the form of people preying on dependency of drugs. What is anyone doing about it? Listen to what this officer has to say. His solution to a problem that is hardly limited to those on skid row is one that should be adopted nationwide. If you disagree, why?

This may not be "THE" answer to turning the drug problem in America around -- but it certainly sounds like an interesting approach to dealing with it. There probably isn't ONE definitive way of dealing with the problem because the problem itself is multifaceted.

Any idea how successful this approach has been ?

That's the sad part, his idea is just an idea. He can't actually implement the things he's saying because of politics. That's why he said they just show presence.

I think his ideas would work to improve skid row, but the drug problem doesn't really have an answer.

Most people like getting intoxicated. Some of those people do it in ways that seriously ruin their lives. Drug treatment, if you can get it, fails much more often than it works. This is never going to change.

It's time for us to completely reevaluate our whole approach on how we deal with drug addiction. This officer's opinions are a good starting point.
