If he really put his kid over a chance to make his team an instant contender he needs to be fired immediately.

Chris Paul's tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers ended Wednesday when the team shipped him to the Houston Rockets, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski, and the trade signaled the conclusion of what was reportedly a contentious relationship with head coach Doc Rivers.

According to SportsCenter's Michael Eaves, Paul had begun to resent Rivers because he, along with other Clippers players, thought the head coach was coddling his son, guard Austin Rivers.

"It led to resentment within the locker room, which often played out during games," Eaves wrote. "One of Paul's biggest contentions with Doc was that Paul, and other players, felt Doc treated Austin more favorably than other players. He would yell at guys for certain things during games and practices but not get on Austin in the same manner for similar transgressions."

Along those same lines, Paul reportedly became fed up with Rivers—who is also the team's president of basketball operations—when he nixed a trade last season that could have landed the Clippers Carmelo Anthony.

"New York offered Carmelo and Sasha Vujacic to the Clippers in exchange for Jamal Crawford, Paul Pierce and Austin Rivers, a deal to which Rivers ultimately said no. That event led Paul to feel that keeping his son on the roster was more important to Doc than improving the team."

Citing a league executive, Eaves reported Paul now "despises" Rivers because of how those situations were handled.

Austin Rivers flopped here in New Orleans, rumors were that he was drafted as a favor to Doc because Doc and Monty were friends, then he gets shipped to his dad in LA ...

Guess it depends on who you ask.. last month it was reported that the Clips initiated the trade talks and Phil turned them down

If my pride & joy was included in a trade to make my squad, holla! It's not like he'll be on the street. Doc a sucker for this, and no one will respect his son in the League. I can imagine the trash talk that'll be going on now.
You would be hot as fuck if big woodchuck sent you to Vancouver back in 99 for a trade of raef lafrintz

A 37 year old Crawford amd 40 year old Pierce for Melo? That's sounds disrespectful. That was an awful trade for NY. It makes sense that Doc wouldnt want his kid to go there and get stuck in our awful system.

It makes no sense. So you rather have on team that resents him because his dad is the coach? On the Knicks he would've started, given a chance to grow even more.

"Contending" for what?

his son is good enough to be in the league, but refusing that trade for melo is kinda ridiculous. I am not suprised though, Doc traded for his son, gave him that contract...Austin should just be thanking daddy everyday he saved dude's career. without his dad, I could see austin playing one vet min deals.

Agreed

I'm sorry but you can not have a work relationship with your son...Goddamn right I ain't trading my son even if he is a bum. That cac Jeff Fisher hired his son and he ain't shit.

Listen
If I had a job where my son was trying to work and the power to pay him 70m
and an employee didn't like it. Guess who would just be shit out of luck?
I think they just resented Rivers cause he is Doc's son I expected that as soon as he arrived that's how it go if your dad is the coach

But you made your son richer than he would've ever been without your help. You send to a team who maybe worse but it allows him to grow and get better which would allow for more money. Now he'll just be Docs son who nobody In the league is going to like.

Big Ups to Doc River for giving his son money he don't deserve. Far too many black folk are getting fucked over in sports. Yea trading him was the right thing but if you have a chance to enrich your child off some cac and you don't, you a damn fool. Nepotism and Cronyism is at the center of capitalism thus I am not angry when a black man use these ism's to his benefit. Doc seen what Golden State did to Mark Jackson which all on this board agree was fucked up then why not pay your son enough to set him up for life. Good job Doc.
