Those satellites were damaged by radiation in the belt, no doubt. But their electronics are delicate. According to the article that you lifted, 3 mm of aluminum, basically aluminum foil will limit radiation exposure in the Van Allen belts to 2500 rem PER YEAR. Now 2500 rem is considered incurable radiation poisoning. But you'd have to chill in the belts for a whole year to get that dose. The entire lunar trip for Apollo 11 was just under 9 days.
Lets just overestimate for arguments purpose. 2500 rem/year that works out to 61.6 rem for a 9 day trip in the Van Allen belts. Except that they went to the Moon. And took a course through the thinnest section of the belt. So really, Apollo spend much less than a day in the Van Allen belt's weakest parts.

I say: You have no point. The solid fuel rocket boosters are just that. The boost the shuttle to the kind of speed it needs to reach orbit. They are not needed beyond a certain point because the three large rocket engines at the rear of the shuttle push it to a high enough speed to match rotation of the earth because of... inertia.

I do not know why you've included a shot of the space shuttle on the back of a 747. In the 1970s when they first tested the shuttle, they bolted the shuttle to a 747, took it up to the maximum height of the 747 (lets say 40 or 50,000 feet) and let it glide down to test empircally what their computer simulations showed. Are you saying they send the shuttle into space from a 747 like they did in the James Bond movie Moonraker? You've taken a picture of a series of tests over a two year period in the 70s and or a shot of the shuttle being flown from California to Florida because it had to land in Cali and are saying that that is the way they get it into space.
