Racist song at ex-cop’s charity event compares Michael Brown to a ‘roadkill dog’

Members of the Elks Lodge in Glendale, California are outraged after a former police officer hosted a charity event that compared slain teen Michael Brown to a “roadkill dog.”

In a video obtained by TMZ, a singer can be heard parodying “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” with racist lyrics mocking Brown.

“Michael Brown learned a lesson about a messin’ / With a badass policeman,” lodge member Gary Fishell sings. “And he’s bad, bad Michael Brown / Baddest thug in the whole damn town / Badder than old King Kong / Meaner than a junkyard dog.”

The song continues: “And he’s dead, dead Michael Brown / Deadest man in the whole damn town / His whole life’s long gone / Deader than a roadkill dog.”

According to TMZ, the event was hosted by retired LAPD Officer Joe Myers, and about half of the 50-60 attendees were officers. The gathering was part of an annual charity golf tournament.

Fishell, who is a former federal investigator, later realized that the song was “off color and in poor taste,” his lawyer told TMZ.

“He’s a goofball who writes funny songs,” the lawyer remarked, adding that Fishell thought that the roomful of police officers “would get a kick out of it.”

For his part, Myers refused to show any remorse for the song.

“How can I dictate what he [Fishell] says in a song?” Myers said. “This is America. We can say what we want. This is a free America.”

A trustee of the Glendale Elks Lodge said that many members were upset over the song.

“It’s deplorable and inappropriate and the Lodge will take disciplinary action against [Fishell] and possibly the people who organized this event,” the trustee warned. “We don’t stand for any racist things like this.”

Pro-Slavery Ohio Police Officer Leaves Force After Wishing For Blacks To Be ‘Exterminated’

mcnamara2.jpg

Aaron McNamara (pictured), a Fairview Park, Ohio, police department auxiliary, resigned from his post after he was accused of posting incendiary posts on his social media sites, oftentimes referring to Blacks as “jungle monkey” and “spooks,” according to ABC 5 News.

The 20-year-old McNamara reportedly wrote:
“Abolishing slavery was the worst thing we could have done. These people should be exterminated… Unbelievable.”
After being caught red-handed, McNamara insisted that the posts were written when he was much younger. He now allegedly regrets his comments, writing the following in his resignation letter to the police department:
“The comments I made in those particular videos were a product of my youth and immaturity; by no means am I a prejudice individual. I am an advocate for equality, and I am highly disappointed in myself for the statements I had previously made. I cannot recollect the most recent comment I was accused of making in February 2014, but I am not denying the claim.”
The Fairview Park police department reportedly had not seen McNamara’s comments, but after interviewing him, they reportedly decided that he be “asked to resign.” Ironically, after the police department conducted a background check on McNamara, not one inkling of his racist tendencies appeared anywhere in his paperwork.

As an auxiliary officer, McNamara was not allowed to cuff a lawbreaker but could help with such run-of-the-mill duties as traffic control, the locking up of city parks, and assisting with parades. In a statement, Fairview Park Police Chief Erich Upperman reportedly told Raw Story that the city “does not tolerate this type of conduct from any person working or volunteering for this city.“ This is the first we are hearing of this and it will be immediately and appropriately investigated. During his brief tenure with our agency, the volunteer never displayed any prejudicial leanings, nor did any arise during his background check.”

This chart explains why black people fear being killed by the police

police_shooting_by_race.0.png

The nationwide furor over the growing number of unarmed black men shot dead by police officers in recent months has put the public spotlight on a much bigger trend in the US: cops are much more likely to shoot and kill black people than any other race.

An analysis of the available FBI data by Vox's Dara Lind shows that US police kill black people at disproportionate rates: black people accounted for 31 percent of police shooting victims in 2012, even though they made up just 13 percent of the US population.

Although the data is incomplete, since it's based on voluntary reports from police agencies around the country, it highlights the vast disparities in how police use force.

Police were 21 times more likely to shoot and kill black teens than white teens between 2010 and 2012, according to a ProPublica analysis of the FBI data. ProPublica reported: "One way of appreciating that stark disparity, ProPublica's analysis shows, is to calculate how many more whites over those three years would have had to have been killed for them to have been at equal risk. The number is jarring — 185, more than one per week."

This data has gained particular significance after a grisly police shooting was recorded on video in North Charleston, South Carolina. There, police officer Michael Slager shot at Walter Scott eight times while the unarmed black 50-year-old was fleeing, with his back to the officer. After video appeared of the incident, Slager was charged with murder and fired from the police department.

The shooting came in the midst of a national firestorm over several high-profile police killings in the past year involving black men and boys. In Ferguson, Darren Wilson killed 18-year-old Michael Brown in a highly contentious shooting that sparked nationwide protests. In Ohio, police killed 22-year-old John Crawford and 12-year-old Tamir Rice in separate shootings after mistaking toy guns for actual weapons. In New York City, NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo killed Eric Garner by putting the unarmed 43-year-old black man in a chokehold.

Together, these killings have drawn new attention to racial disparities that have been a part of the criminal justice system for decades.

James Clyburn Tells Young People To Turn Their Cameras On Police

WASHINGTON -- Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Wednesday that, in the wake of a video showing a South Carolina police officer fatally shooting an unarmed black man, young people should keep their cameras turned on police.

"I've advised young people, keep your cell phones tuned up. Keep the battery charged. And don't hesitate to turn them on when you see things happening that's unbecoming or you think may cross the line," Clyburn said in an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

"I think that we are going to have to do more of this, because I think that's what it's going to take for police officers to really think twice before pulling their weapons," he said.

Clyburn's comments come days after Officer Michael Slager shot 50-year-old Walter Scott eight times as Scott fled the scene after a minor traffic violation. Slager maintained that Scott stole his Taser and that he acted in self-defense. But when a video of the incident surfaced Tuesday, it showed Scott unarmed and running away, and Slager planting a Taser near his body after he shot him.

Slager has since been fired and charged with murder, and the FBI is investigating.

Clyburn, who is the House Assistant Democratic leader and who is also black, said Wednesday he was saddened by the incident, but not surprised.

"Why pull out your service revolver and start shooting? I mean, eight times?" he asked. "I think that a climate has been created in the country … I get nasty little letters telling me about playing the race card. Well, I'm not playing the race card. I think what is happening in too many of these instances, that these perpetrators are playing the race card. We're just responding to what they're doing."

US Police Appeal To Public To Stop Filming Them Shooting Black People

Kim+Dine+White+House+Lockdown+Following+Shooting+3-6bZb7UdORl.jpg

POLICE in the United States have launched an appeal to the public to try and curb the amount of recordings of black people getting shot turning up online.

The plea comes after a video was posted on YouTube showing LAPD officers struggling with a homeless man in broad daylight before shooting him to death.

Officers responding to a burglary call in the impoverished Skid Row area of LA got into an altercation with a homeless man known only as “Africa”, before opting to end the struggle by the application of bullets to the heads.

The video, the latest in the “US cops shoot black people” genre, was met with fury from across the online community, which led the chief of police in Los Angeles issuing a heartfelt statement to the public.

“It is with great regret that I inform you all here about the recording of 6 of my officers shooting a homeless man turning up online,” said Mike Lockhard, wiping tears from his eyes.

“In these trying times, we would appeal to those of you with smart phones, tablets or Super 8 video cameras, to please refrain from capturing footage of our officers as they kill people on the streets. It’s really, really making us look bad folks. Knock it off”.

The killing in LA brings the number of black people shot to death by police this year to an unconfirmed amount, as everyone has kinda stopped counting at this stage.
