PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, advise everyone you know that they absolutely can not go to the polls wearing any Obama shirts, pins, or hats, it is against the law and will be grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away. That is considered campaigning and no one can campaign with in X amount of feet to the polls. They are banking on us being excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be enforced this year!!!!

They are banking that if are turned away you will not go home and change your clothes.. PLEASE just don't wear Obama gear of any sorts to the polls!! Please share this information, oh and for those of who were already aware this was not meant to insult your intelligence.

I'm not sure - but from what I'm reading, this is a false rumor. You're allowed to wear your buttons, shirts, pins, hats, etc as long as you enter the polling area and vote in a civilized manner. You're not allowed to do any other campaigning within 50 feet of the polling area.

However, they say the laws vary from state to state. Some are saying this was a rumor put out because they know Obama shirts are hot this time around.

This is true, Thats why when you go the people wearing the stuff has to stay a certain distance away. This varies from different state laws so know the law before you go!

Actually this is an issue that many state's are currently seeing litigation over; parties are suing to prevent other people from wearing/displaying their party/candidate affiliation from entering into the voting ballot because they believe it is soliciting for the candidate.

Because every state essentially makes up its own voting rules, it is difficult to determine what is or is not allowed.

I also recommend that voters do not have any political affiliations displayed when they enter the voting area just to be on the safe side.

I am an election judge in Maryland, and the guidance we got was that a voter can wear political material, but only if they are in to vote. They cannot loiter before or after they vote. But, it's no biggie either way. The most the judges can tell you is to cover up whatever solicitation you are wearing. Don't overreact.
