Djimon Honsou did a doc on voodoo

Wanna see that, It's practiced heavily in Haiti. My uncle was a voodoo priest but idk much about it, just remember going to the parties as a youth.

FYI - "VooDoo" derived from the word "Vodun" which means Deity in the native language of the Fon People (West African)
We were't allowed to practice our native spirituality in the Caribbean or in America and a negative connotation was attached to
it by cacs over the centuries to help convert us to Christianity and wipe it out.

I urge people to read books like this

Thank you brother.

black people here in the states practice voodoo without even realizing it;ever hear of someone burning the broken strands of hair left in a comb or brush?cause if he bird gets it,it will make you crazy, never be friendly to a black cat, never sweep your feet with a broom and if so spit on the broom to get rid of it and the rest of the things that we were told to do and do it without realizing it,it's voodoo or practice of it in some way.All religions also do things that are practice in voodoo, cathlics, jews, christians, muslims, hindu's and so on.

Papa Legba is a being in haitian voodoo that is in between both worlds of the dead and the living and comes out at night and is said to be devilish in his behavior when it comes to the living like hearing doors close when you're home alone, sounds and seeing things at night as he laughs and skips along to the next place in the night.

Start by making sacrifices in the form of donations or buying food for someone/people in need. When my girls were born, we sent money to Africa for their sacrifices. Wife's family purchased white sheeps, killed them and divided the meat among the community. Other sacrifices we made were buying food ingredients and having large meals prepared and giving to the community. If you dont have a connection to the motherland you can still sacrifice here by giving to those REALLY in need. Not necessarily voodoo, more like spirituality. Many Africans, muslims and christians, practice this. Hell, Christianity has several elements of sacrifice like Jesus being sacrificed or Abraham willing to sacrifice his son. The only difference is, as someone mentioned previously, slaves were brainwashed into losing their forms of spirituality and adopting the slave master's religion.

I'm talking about VOODOO, and these other West African so-called "spiritual" systems whose involvement in slavery is just as dirty as that of Christianity and Islam.

That's a good article. Props. However, voodoo is the reason most people think the Haitian revolution was successful. I don't really have a dog in this fight cuz I don't belove in spiritual stuff but just thought I'd add that.

Ayibobo!!!

Vodou means spirit. And if one wants to learn anything about Vodou, reading a book about da Orisa wouldn't be where you'd start.

That's cuz they're stupid and only know about it through Tariq Nasheed.

The Haitian revolution was a 13 year war , that relied on constantly changing allies, an overwhelming numbers advantage, clever generalship from Toussaint and Dessalines, biological warfare, and France being tied up in a Homeland revolution at the same time.

I agree. I thought it was strangely convenient how Djimon only touched on dahomeys role in the slave trade for half a second. But he's from.there, so I get him attempting to reconcile it. He did show the D'Souza family though.

First off I said "Vodun" and it means Spirit OR Deity it doesn't translate straight to English.....
Also, I never said learning about Orisa was a way to learn about VooDoo....Where did I say that?? Hahahaha
I just said I urge people to read books like that.
They COVER what was done to West Africans and their Spirituality or (Religion) once they got here....
