After losing to Les Miserables in its first three days, Django Unchained finally inched past the musical on Friday; the Quentin Tarantino revenge western added $9.67 million for a four-day total of $43 million. That's about on par with Inglourious Basterds's grosses through the same point, and that movie's $120.5 million total looks like a nice target for Django. The movie should wind up between $27 and $30 million for the weekend.

2. Django Unchained (Sony/Weinstein) Week 1 [Runs 3,010] R
Friday $9.6M, Est Weekend $28.4M, Est Cume $61.8M

exactly... do other directors have to take away their hits ?

those movies weren't made to be smash hits... though st ana was expected to do better

He's a one-hit-wonder at the Box Office, but he stay criticizing other directors that shit on his Lifetime gross with one film.. That's the point..

where the screener copy at I know someone gotta have tht shit

I been waiting for that shit ever since someone took a picture of that dvd screener of it. I Ain't going to see that shit until I get that dvd screener and I know its coming.

Well I agree that Spike is a hating muthafucka but he ain't no won hit wonder.

Tarantino's films haven't grossed that much either. But they are directors. They make good films. They not box office grossers. Spike especially isn't going out there to make box office smashes. But when he does get a budget he goes out there and gives you Inside Man. Spike could take on all them moves Antoine Fuqua be bullshiting with but he chooses not to.

This. It appears that this cac got enough money. Bring on the screener.

You're overrating Spike's influence.

Yea that shit was making 62 million regardless. Shit had NOTHING to do with Spike. These Tarantino revenge flicks like Inglorious Bastard and Kill Bill were all destined to do well. Shit shouldn't be surprising.

Yea exactly. I remember they dropped that American Gangster and Great Debaters screeners right before the muthafuckas even dropped. Aight its clear this shit gonna be 62 million so go ahead and drop this screener. I'm not going to see this shit in no theater but I sure as hell will watch the shit from my crib.

All the controversy surrounding this film, you knew it was gonna do numbers based off just that.

And ummmm.... Pulp Fiction alone shits on Spike's Lifetime earnings as a Director..

In terms of Box Office success he is.. I'm not talking critically..

Damn I spelled "one" as in "won". I hate when people do that shit and i'm victim of it now.

But how were Kings of Comedy, Jungle Fever, Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X not hits? You are judged by how much money you make at the box office not how much you grossed. So if Do The Right Thing cost you 3 million to make and you brought in 50 million that means you made nearly 50 million dollars at box office. Spike got hits bro. They may not be worldwide hits but he made hits out of Drama's/Comedies and didn't need a 100 million dollar budget to do it. That should be admired.

I'm speaking on Taratino's smaller films like "Jackie Brown", "Reservior Dog's", etc. Those are the films that had a similar budget to those of Spike Lee's. You comparing movies like Kill Bill and Inglorious Bastards when those movies had 80 million dollar budgets. Of course they are going to gross more than Spike's film's. You saw what happened when he got a big budget for Inside Men right? He grossed 100+ million.

jamie will rue the day he agreed to this film

Jamie got bills. He doesn't have time to worry about niggas getting mad at him doing his job. Unless ya'll want to offer to pay his bills. If anything cac's gonna be lining up to see him from here on out.

You're trying to move the goalposts now, and your STILL wrong.. :smh:

Celebrating the monetary success of a Slavery based action comedy set in the US, being supported in the US, written and directed by a racist white dude.

Inside Man did 88 Mill..

Kill Bill nor IB had 80 Mill budgets.. Try again..

there is no shortage of crackas lining up to see blacks degrade themselves and their ancestors on film. My only question to Jamie would be how much to sell out next time?

Spike has some good work, shit I am kind of watching He Got Game right now on BET.

Spike has made some valid points over the years & made some good films too. The Spike Lee culture critic shit & overlord of what is acceptable is where I differentiate.

He has worked his way up into the position of having bigger voice. Props to him, he is one of just a few. But his most effective voice will always be film. Just tell good valid stories.

And for perspective and clarity Dtown.. You just keep moving them goalposts.. Your first statement was "Tarantino doesn't gross much as a Director"..

That statement was smashed.

Now you're trying to make an argument about Gross vs. Net Profit... If that means anything, Tyler Perry is the greatest Director of all time.. :smh:

Where you gon move the goalpost now?..

i dont care to debate spike lee's legacy or quentin tarantino's for that matter. But i fucks with spike lee, because i love his movies that have a positive message.

That divide the masses shit dont work on me.

Bottom line in my opinion spike was right in what he said.

Now if you brothers want to continue to sit in here and argue with white folks about your feelings do you, but know this, if you take the power away from these devils they have none.

Peace!

Spike has made some great films...films that were important to my experience as a young black man...he's a good director...but he's also made some bullshit that made me go "WTF?" He's earned a voice...and he uses it how he sees fit. I often disagree with him, but I respect what he's done. That said, Quinton Tarantino has also made some great films. Some GREAT films. He's a good director. I saw Django and it was good as fuck. I think the 800 pound gorilla in the room with all this anger over Django is that a white director made a fictional movie about slavery...and Spike and the rest of the other black directors didn't. Spike need to man up...get Oprah and Denzel to put some money up and do a movie of the Autobiography of Fredrick Douglas or a Nat Turner flick if he wants to honor his ancestors. But we know he aint doing that shit. Django is a good movie. Fuck the haters.
