Disney Star Cast As Aaliyah In Lifetime Biopic

most "black people" in America have something else in their blood lines so hardly anyone is "black" we're all a "mixed race" fuck the bullshit if you're mixed with black you have melanin and are a sun child, gtfoh. Aaliyah was not dark skinned, she must have been mixed which equals not black according to some... so what does it matter if a "mixed race girl" plays her?

i honestly think that this has alot to do with what part of the country you are from. where i am from this is not even close to an issue of discussion.

however, when i moved to san diego one of my biggest issues there was i was unable to locate many black people that i felt were culturally black in the way that i was accustomed.

granted sd is less than 5% black and i was coming from areas that had healthy populations of black people. atl and det.

i felt that in san diego there were not too many blacks that were proud to be culturally black. now i am not saying all but a good portion. i felt i ran into many lost souls in sd trying to be anything other than black.

so this discussion here sheds new light on that for me.

and concerning the dating part of this since someone keeps bringing that up. idgaf.

So does this rule apply to the children who are 3/4 white?

noone wants to answer that lmao

what are you guys so afraid of?

The truth most likely

Edit: And whats with all of this shit about everyone being mixed? Isnt that shit a result of slavery and rape?? why be so proud of it???

The self hate is so sad smdh

this is where i am trying to get an understanding.

so since the one drop rule is a racist system and we will not destroy the notion of race in our lifetimes what do we do?

how old are they?

do they in some way prefer being called mixed because it makes them 'special?'

i have never seen mixed on any form of application. in the blank line that they leave to they put mixed?

Like I said, I respect peoples choice to self-identify. Does she think she's special? No, not to my knowledge, but she says ONLY calling her self black is disrespectful to her mothers side. Which makes complete sense. She's half black and white, how does her black side cancel out her white side?

Oh wait...according to you and white racists it does.

i just want to know what we should do as a people about it.

i am lighter than many mixed people i know. i obviously have a white lineage. i guess that means i am disrespecting my white and oh i forgot "indian" ancestors.

boom.

white supremacists came up with that one drop rule.

how can you be against white supremacy and the people who practice it but buy into the one drop rule?

Basically, the brotha doesn't realize he's using a "rule" established from white supremacy. But the girl is half black and half white. Most of society would see her as black or a woman of color and I'll just leave it at that.

But calling someone black because their great great great great great great great great grandfather on their mommas side was black, even though they're as white as rice, is not really accurate.

to be honest if a child is 3/4 white then that makes them 1/4 black with melanin and the dominate gene factor. If they choose not to represent themselves as black it comes from their upbringing and surroundings. Slavery and rape did not cause asian mixed with black, natives mixed black etc.... which were all occurring before white people ever got to the "new world". Who is self hating and why not be proud of what you are? There is also no such thing as "race" in terms of dividing cultures of people. That was also invented by white people for social status purposes. Everyone else identified by tribes. The ignorance is so sad. Obviously most of the tribal groups (at least here in America) are lost as far as identifying with, so the next thing to identify with is what genes you have in you that are dominate, and black people have the dominate genes.

just as the people saying mixed people are not black yada yada and saying white people invented the one drop rule so it does not count, they are attaching themselves to the notion of "race as divisions of cultures" when in fact there is only 1 race... the human race which used to be subdivided by tribes of peoples. What we do or at least myself is identify with anything you feel you are that is not white. I'm black and native american... I can say I am both but I identify with being "black" and that is how I am seen to the world even if I am asked and tell them what I am although I do get mistaken for East African all the time by East Africans.

If you saw Obama walking down the street in Harlem as a non famous person. Would you sit and say. Gee look at this half breed walking around Harlem. He looks Black and is Black. There are Blacks with two Black parents who can come out lighter than Obama. Are they not Black. I bet you sample every Black Americans blood and we all will have cac in our veins along with all sorts of shit. Race aint real but brown people with kinky hair are Black. Period. A half Black person will face the same racism and bullshit as a two parent black person.

It's interesting to have a thread like this and the one about racism in Brazil going on at the same time. Basically, the one drop rule backfired for the white supremacists because it unified Black Americans of all shades. Without it, look no further than a country like Brazil to see how things could have turned out.

You identify with being black because your native american side wasn't going to claim you. Let's not act like you had a choice.

because it unified Black Americans of all shades.

If that's the case then explain the colorism that went on in the past and continues to this day.

you do know native americans were asians mixed with africans who came across the bearing straight right? and I have native american family who claim me just fine, we were all at a family reunion last year

so much division, self created by Black people. It almost make you think that the divide is just too historical, too ingrained to ever recover from it.:angry::smh::smh::smh:

mixed WTF is that? so are we South Africa now with a "colored" race separate from Black or white? So all the lighter brown Black people are no longer Black? WE no longer claim people like Lena Horne? man get the fuck out of here with this bullshit.

If that's the case then explain the colorism that went on in the past and continues to this day.

If you think our colorism issues are comparable to the plight of Black people in some of these "color-blind" countries, then I don't know what to tell you. We take a lot of our accomplishments in this country for granted, especially when you consider the fact that we're only 15 percent of the population. I can't fathom the thought of being in a place where I'm part of the majority, but virtually invisible in the media, politically and economically. :smh:

I don't didn't compare shit.

You foolishly suggested that the one drop rule unified us. My post was in response to that.

No one is going to address this at all......

we can agree to disagree. in a way....

race in and of itself is a social construct. unfortunately we live in a society where nothing we do will change that in our lifetimes.

pretending that race doesn't exist and there are infinite classifications of race only makes matters worse.

i definitely have white lineage in my family as do most black americans. i get called light bright all of the time. what the fuck does that make me?

you can agree to disagree but you just lost the debate. He got you. But the "what does that make me" line is you being defensive now.

Here's a question for you they aint black folk. If a mix race child grows up to marry a black man/women and have children. what are their children considered?

the discussion can continue. nothing has been lost. throwing around you just going with the white man is not winning. it is obscuring the subject matter.

Anybody remember how upset black folk were when the first African American to win the Masters said he was Cablinasian.
How about Mariah Carey when she said she wasn't black.
It's funny that folks label he/she as not being black but the moment anyone of these folks agree. The they aint black crew gets upset about the mixed race kids/adults agreeing with them.
