Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, will launch on Nov. 12 for $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, the company confirmed on Thursday.

Disney’s Kevin Mayer, head of the company’s direct-to-consumer unit, gave investors their first look at the Disney+ app and interface. Similar to Netflix, Disney+ users are greeted by rows of recommended content, new TV series or movies added to the platform, and genres. Unlike Netflix, there are five hubs that sit at the top of the page, which will bring users to designated areas for Disney’s various franchises: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

Disney+ will be available to stream through smart TVs, web browsers, on tablets and mobile devices, and game consoles, according to Mayer. The streaming service has already secured deals with Roku and Sony for availability on their respective platforms.

Disney+ subscribers will be able to set up individual profiles for those they live with; parental controls will automatically be applied for child profiles. All Disney+ content will be available for offline download, and the company is promising 4K HDR presentation where applicable on TVs.

Here’s an example showcasing what a specific hub looks like, using the first Disney hub.

Mayer also announced a couple of new projects coming to Disney+, including confirming that Marvel was working on a series based around Avengers characters, Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Falcon and Winter Soldier joins a number of series currently in development, including two confirmed live-action projects from Marvel Studios focusing on Loki and Hawkeye, a Monsters, Inc. show, a High School Musical show, and a Star Wars series focusing on a bounty hunter, called The Mandalorian.
Disney will also end its vault program in time for Disney+, according to a previous investors call. The vault program essentially made it impossible to buy a movie until it was released for a limited time. Now, all movies will be available to stream exclusively on Disney+, according to Iger.

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Disney would launch its streaming service with “500 films from the Disney library ... in addition to around 7,000 episodes of Disney TV.” Netflix had 4,335 movies and 1,197 TV series in 2016. Iger told investors in November 2017 that they were planning to “walk, not run” into streaming, but would ramp up production on original series and films over time.

Disney+ is the company’s big push into streaming to take on competition from Netflix, Amazon, and Apple. The company also has a majority stake in Hulu following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Disney also confirmed that it would “likely” combine subscriptions for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.

Disney+ = Kids to PG13 content - $6.99
Hulu = Mature Content/ABC/Fox - $5.99
ESPN+ = Sports - $4.99

$17.00 a month for all Disney content not bad...

I was gonna say....at that price point.....you have no choice BUT to purchase. Fucking Mickey damn near got a gun to our head and daring us to purchase it. I wonder how deep this catalog will be?
I believe eventually they want everything they own on the streaming sites. It may take awhile to get to that point.

And all of The Simpsons... at $7/month, it's a no brainer. Disney's catalog >>>>

Disney Plus is supposed to include all of Disney's family-friendly fare. It'll have content from Disney proper, Marvel, Lucasfilm (so: Star Wars), Pixar and National Geographic.

Disney Plus will be the only place you can stream all of Disney's theatrically released movies starting with Captain Marvel and the rest of its 2019 slate. It will also house the "entire Disney motion picture library," according to Iger, including all the classic animated movies in what the company calls the Disney vault. And of course, the company is developing a slate of original, exclusive shows and movies for the service.

Original exclusives include a Star Wars prequel series based on Rogue One and starring Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in the original movie. Disney also confirmed the service is developing a live-action Marvel series focused on Loki, a character from the Avengers, which will star Tom Hiddleston reprising the role.

Disney Plus will have original behind-the-scenes documentaries, too. The company also has started to make deals for original programming that doesn't already fall into one of its established brands. In January, Disney Plus ordered a 10-episode series called Diary of a Female President. The show follows a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl and the highs and lows of her middle-school life en route to becoming the US commander in chief.

Out of the vast library of Disney's past catalog, Disney Plus is supposed to offer "thousands of hours" of content, but we don't know yet exactly what could be excluded.

Even though all of Disney's movies will stream exclusively on Disney Plus, the company doesn't plan to debut any of its big-budget motion pictures on the service. Unlike Netflix's so-called day-and-date approach, which releases most of its films on big screens and on its streaming service at the same time, Disney plans for its tentpole movies, like those in its Star Wars franchise, to run their course in theaters before making them available with a digital subscription.

We do know the service will include shows and movies such as:

  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars new season (exclusive to this service).
  • Marvel movies, starting with 2019's Captain Marvel.
  • Star Wars films, starting with 2019's Episode 9.
  • Pixar films, starting with 2019's Toy Story 4.
  • A live-action, big-budget Star Wars TV series called The Mandalorian, being developed by Jon Favreau.
  • A Star Wars Rogue One prequel TV series, starring Diego Luna.
  • A live-action Marvel series focused on Avengers character Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston.
  • A Marvel series featuring Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen
  • A Marvel limited series focused on Hawkeye, featuring Jeremy Renner
  • Possible Marvel series that would team up Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson, aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie), according to Slashfilm.
  • A possible What If-themed Marvel series that would imagine what the Marvel Cinematic Universe would look like if different events took place. According to a Slashfilm report, the series would be overseen by MCU head Kevin Feige and would be an animated anthology show. An episode example would reportedly feature how the Marvel timeline would unfold if Loki found Thor's hammer.
  • Marvel's Hero Project, a documentary series featuring the positive changes several young people are making in their own communities.
  • Marvel's 616 (working title), a documentary series exploring the intersection between Marvel's stories and the real world.
  • An animated series spinoff of Pixar's Monsters, Inc called Monsters at Work.
  • A series adapted from Disney movie Escape to Witch Mountain
  • A 10-episode series, Diary of a Female President, about a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl.
  • A documentary about Walt Disney Imagineering.
  • A Timmy Failure film directed by Spotlight's Tom McCarthy.
  • A live-action Lady and the Tramp remake.
  • A Sword in the Stone remake.
  • Noelle, a movie starring Anna Kendrick.
  • Togo, a sled dog movie starring Willem Dafoe.
  • A Three Men and a Baby remake.
  • The Paper Magician film.
  • A Stargirl film.
  • A High School Musical series.
  • Encore!, a reality show that reunites former castmates of a high school musical to re-creating their original performances of productions like The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast and Annie.
  • A possible Muppets series.
  • Earthkeepers (working title), a cinematic documentary series the animal kingdom and people working to protect endangered species.
  • Be Our Guest, a Disney-inspired cooking competition at Walt Disney World.
  • Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies (working title), an eight-episode series revisiting beloved films through their props and costumes. Films featured include Tron, Mary Poppins, The Muppet Movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
  • (Re)Connect, a reality program that explores divisions in individual families and their journeys with a specialized expert to confront their dilemmas.
  • Rogue Trip, a travel guide to misunderstood and overlooked corners of the world.

Yeah, nope. Not enough content on there that I can't get *ahem* elsewhere. And it might be $7 bucks to start but we know it won't stay there for long. The only thing I hope is that they don't pull National Geographic off free TV. That would be petty IMO.

I think Marvel is setting a Young Avengers on Disney+....

Scarlett Witch & Vision Series - Speed and Wiccan and Vision in new Body?

Falcon & Winter Solider - Patriot (Eli Bradley)?

Loki - (Reincarnation) Kid Loki?

Hawkeye - Hawkeye (Kate Bishop)?

I know they got other things they own.. We had various threads literally describing their catalog... I even explained in several threads how easily they gonna make a multi billion dollar profit each yr on it... I even said they gonna charge under $10 for it juss cause people gonna feel like it's a steal and their catalog is ridiculous...me and playahaitian been talking about this topic since they first announced this... I'm juss explaining off the kid catalog alone they gonna make this a necessity for a lot of adults.... Marvel, starwars, pixar, animated films, live action, old cartoon series that alone shuts everything down..that's just some of their retro shit

At $7 a month it’s not even worth my time trying to find content, download, or keep bootlegs going. And that 4k HDR puts it over the top.

They need to throw in all that archived Disney shit that I grew up on there.
Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers
TaleSpin
Duck Tales
All of the old Mickey and gang cartoons
Primitive Pete, etc.
Count me the fuck in with what they’re already offering.

Well, to each his own brother. Personally, I can hardly keep up with Netflix and all the other content I have. Not to mention sports and my IRL activities.

I just don't see where I would find the time to get to all that content.

Maybe I could watch less porn...

The stock is rising .....disney is moving away from that theme park shit and heading towards entertainment.
