I think Oprah overestimated the degree of people's interest in positivity and self-improvement. It was one thing for them to tune in for that hour, then go back to their regularly schedule programming- but around the clock?

The network is not struggling so I don’t understand this move. Oprah don’t need the money so why give someone majority ownership of something that carries your name, it is akin to selling rights to your brand which will allow them to push content you don’t approve of with your name attatched to it.

Would have thought buying majority control would cost quite a bit more than $70 million.. Obviously the amount the already owned matters but still...

Or maybe she isn’t a billionaire to begin with. Why would a billionaire have her flagship TV station bought out for so little?
