Indeed Charlie Brown was the 1st chronicled Angst-ridden "depressed" character in a popular comic strip. Although he didn't start that way. Schultz put a little of himself or his life in all his characters over time. Charlie Brown has a lot of Schultz in him, especially his depression and fears. That's where the similarity ends. As an engineering student and a person that was surrounded by engineers back in the day, there was a facet of Dilbert that spoke to that community. Pointing out the insanity of that particular office environment and the ineptitude of the management of it felt weirdly validating.
Granted, that observation and acknowledgement has become more common over time in more media, so Dilbert as a character and a concept has become less and less relevant. I guess this is why Adams has been leaning into more and more controversial opinions. ... or he's just a racist idiot. Possibly both things . Hard to tell, really.
It is still truly fascinating to me how many people - public figures, no less - have been willing to put themselves into a worse light because they have become empowered to "speak their truth". I guess I shouldn't be surprised to find out that that demographic, specifically affluent white people, have such poorly thought out opinions and a willingness to share them, but I still find it interesting how willing they are to put themselves on a firing line "just because."
Trump made a lot of folks want to be free and their true authentic racist selves. They don't live in the same type of consequence free bubbles with people who either fear them or need them propping them up and protecting them tho.
You're right, but my belief is that even tRump's bubble will eventually burst. In my opinion after 2024 all he'll have going for him is what money he hasn't squandered on legal fees and the adulation of hard core, delusional, no account MAGA'ets followers.
