I could explain how its interesting but you might not get it.
The song is in A major but they seem to be playing and mixing in chords minor over the major. Then, just before the pre-chorus it goes deeper into an A phrygian, which darkens the song up. The chorus switches to a standard F to B flat progression in 4/4/ that pulls you completely out of the 7/4 time signature. I know it sounds like I'm smoking but musically, that shit is pretty dope and clever. I'm hearing suspended chords on the verses, too. That makes it sound jazzy. That's why I don't believe that she wrote it.

In terms of complexity, maybe so. The song starts in 7/4 tempo and goes in 4/4 on the chorus and back to 7/4 for the verses with jazz chords all over the place.
Its reminds me much more of something Esperanza Spalding would do.
I've seen her live before and I'm shocked this song came from her. If it turned out to be ghost-written, I wouldn't be surprised at all. For now, I'm gonna give her her props and say that musically, its really well done.

But its like when your wife who can't cook says she made dinner and it tastes five-star. You start looking for the boxes in the trash.
