With the Detroit Tiger starting pitching currently intact, the Tigers plan on staying on top of the American League-Central for some time. Which is one of the reasons Tiger owner, Mike Ilich decided to make the move. Also, the recent injury to the Tiger DH/catcher Victor Martinez influenced it , as well.
Although some have envisioned current IB, Miquel Cambrea sharing DH/1B duties with Fielder (as he did last season with Victor Martinez), I don't see that happening. Cecil Fielder has voiced his opposition to being a DH. A role(DH) that many young players are opposed. Not a problem!
Cambrea spent his early years with Detroit as a successful 3rd baseman, and will likely return to that position, replacing Brandon Inge who spent time in the minors last season due to his untimely hitting. Inge is a streak hitter, and has had his moments in the field. On the days Cambrea DH's, Inge can play third.
A damn good move for the Tigers, and bad news for the rest of the American League!
