I thought the sketch and premise was pretty funny.

I can see this being an ongoing gag.

Denzel works for the Cell Phone Company.
Denzel works as the Building Superintendent.

etc. etc.
 
Congrats to Jay and all but....

  • He doesnt seem to perform well under pressure or with a crowd, his Denzel wasnt as tight as the one he does solo.
  • They dialog for the sketch was wack, that may be why he didnt seem as funny as normal doing denzel. The fact that he had lines instead of freestyling.
  • His facial expressions are too exaggerated that it looks more goofy than authentic and funny.

Look at this and see what I mean...

Dude had me laughing hard off the them youtube videos. I think he would be better if he was on Madtv.
 
very talented brotha...most of dude's impressions are spot-on ... he has like 70-75 i think ...denzel and will smith are his best ones... i'm sure he'll get plenty of opportunities to do both...

and they'll probably let him start doin' obama too...cuz the guy who does it right now ... for the show ...is mediocre at best.. or at least jay can give him some pointers to make his impression better...

the sketch was ok...his impression was good...i'm sure he had some butterflies .. he'll settle in as he gets more sketches...

even though SNL is past its prime...it's still SNL...

Jay needs time to fold into the mesh too. SNL is still Live - thats the hard shit to hold down lines and keep it fresh. His timing saved the whole sketch. He gonna be just fine.

I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember but when Eddie Murphy first arrived on SNL between 1980-81 he was a featured cast member at the start, meaning he had no creative control yet he still shined. It wasn't until half way through that season he became a repertory cast member and that's when he began to really shine creatively. You can only work with what you're given. I always thought SNL was corny apart from the Eddie Murphy era. Give this guy a chance.
