Denzel to Daughter: ‘You’re Dark-Skinned’ So You’ll Have to Work Harder

Nice. Cool. Stay the path of the thread.

So when I talk about the importance of a father and balance in the household, you think it is off-topic?

Hit dogs holla and you howled when I posted the truth.

A lack of fathers in the home contributes to boy not becoming men.

That is a fact.

How and why father's are not in the home is another topic.

But no one can deny that men are a necessary component to create that balance.

Denzil was playing defense.

Not to agree with the possible white person. BUT. Are african features "celebrated" in the media? Dark skin + African featured actresses get what big time accolades and work exactly?

none! however our features are to be celebrated by us no matter how they view them.
which goes back to denzel just speaking on how they see things and why they'll act the way they do..

Hollywood is #3 in the film industry in the world.

Stop acting like they own the world.

African features are celebrated in a sly way in the media, thick lips, darker skin, muscular structure, black fashion.

The movie industry is like any other industry.

Black people are COMPETITION. IT'S NOT A CHARITY SHOW!

They will do everything to deny you so what do we do?

Keep knocking is not a long term solution!

Go get some Nollywood movies and support a black film industry.

Denzel told her the right thing.

Yes our features are supposed to be celebrated by us. But once again. SUPPOSED. Is not IS. Denzel was telling his kid, if you're going to do this, know that you're going to have to be like THIS in order to make it. She's a pretty young woman to SOME of us. And there will be those of US(Alot) who don't see her wide nose and big thick lips and sun blessed skin as a beautiful thing.

Now i'm trying to figure an actress who has decidedly african features who's made it BIG. And keeps getting parts. I'm open to being informed. In American cinema which is who i'm concerned with.

Accolades?

Do the Jews fight for the right to get accolades from the German nazi?:confused::confused:

Are Jews fighting to be celebrated in Germany?
:confused::confused::confused:

What is it with black people fighting for acceptance?

This is what I'm saying . The MOMENT we stop this and just do it ourself WE WILL HAVE IT.

So Your advice is. Don't go into acting. Which is good advice. I wouldn't advise it either. Which is what Denzel should've told his kids in my opinion. BUT. That's not what happened. So for the real world situation that they're in. His advice was the best advice to give her. He probably told her don't go into acting. But once she's decided to do it. What do you say then? You tell them what it's really needed to be heard.

I just yanked my middle boy out of football. I saw that video of that boy getting his knee destroyed and i'm determined not to have that happen to my baby. I don't want him to play football. I don't want them to do things that will harm them. When he turns 18 and decides, i'm going to go try out for football, i'm just supposed to stop talking to him? No. I tell him the reality of the situation. And i tell him how to best protect himself. It's the same thing with all walks of life. You don't want them to do it. But if they're determined to do it. You prepare them for it to the best of your ability by telling them the reality of it.

My advice is CREATE YOUR OWN HOLLYWOOD. And you cannot fear your child through life. Let him play football , you might end up being the mother at the games enjoying his play on the field.

Who defines "making it"? :confused::confused::confused:

We keep playing their game.

"parts"? Is that what we are talking about getting? "parts"? :hmm:

We have to redefine totally what it means "to make it".

But you haven't answered ANYTHING about what to do NOW. I said it more times than once. I agree with you. But what do you do NOW? Denzel should tell his daughter to do what NOW? Answer that.

In my opinion he should have gave her the speech he gave PLUS ADDED THIS ; " Unless you want to create it yourself, which is very possible too." In other words at least give her the potential on the mental level to create it herself / with her peers . Rather than seek approval from the SAME PEOPLE who have NEVER given it.

I did answer what to do NOW. We create it NOW. Denzel has the money for a couple of RED CAMERAS, high end production computers. Etc. The rest is our CREATIVITY. WHICH WE HAVE FOR FREE.

i wasn't disagreeing with denzel
and i don't know

I agree. And i've said this a bunch of times. And you apparently agree as well. lol Ya'll just want to argue with me because i'm a woman. I understand that. I've said multiple times, black people need to create their own playing field. Build their own stadiums. Build their own EVERYTHING. I've stood by this statement quite a bit.

But. That's dreamland. Reality land, is she wants to be an actress and star in major motion budget so on and so forth now. So you're agreeing that what he told her was right. He said this is what she wants to do. I understand THAT. But i don't think building a major motion picture studio is as easy as having a couple million dollars. Or else everyone would have done it by now.

What's holding them back?

So Denzel should tell his daughter, make your own hollywood? Now?

He could tell her where the obstacles lie in that particular industry and have a brain storming session on how she could work to address those hurdles.

She has a unique opportunity to talk to Denzil, get his council and his insights in the industry.

I see people do this all day every day here in Silicon valley.

The only difference is that the people here BELIEVE that they could make a difference instead of going along and trying to be the best in a system that already exists.
