I have not seen a Players or a Pictorial(by Players magazine in years). The internet killed the magazine game. Black Tail is still holding on but it is not what it used to be before the internet porn explosion.

Players Magazine stopped publishing around 2000; Players Pictorial and Players Nasty stopped sometime in the mid 2000s.

Black Tail (and its sister magazine, Big Black Butt) stopped about 5 years ago.

I was a big fan of Emerge Magazine. I was mad when the publishing stopped. I do know that before he died, the publisher, George Curry, was trying to start Emerge Magazine Online; I heard about this last year.

I was a big fan of Ebony Man (for the pics of the ladies, not so much for the content). I was a really big fan of Players, Players Pictorial, Black Tail, and Big Black Butt. Still have some of the old issues today. They didn't always have the most attractive women, but when they did, the women would be outstanding!

If anybody has some old issues, let me know...or at least post the best women from them!

Would anybody happen to have any old Jet Magazine calendars - the ones with the nudes? The last nude calendar was in 1984.

Sepia
, a photojournalistic magazine styled like Look and sometimes compared to Ebony, featured articles based primarily on achievements of African Americans. The magazine was founded in 1946. Sepia was bought by Beatrice Pringle, who had been part of Blackwell's founding editorial team. She continued it until 1983, closing it despite respectable circulation.

Used to hit up an Asian market to pick up Black Video Illustrated in the late-90s, as I happened across that mag' by chance and no other places seemed to carry it. Always good for action shots and movie reviews. One of my homegirls in NY worked for a few record labels. She also had some friends and connects in the porn biz. Mentioned the mag' to her and she sent me a box of stuff (dvds and magazines) and happened to include an additional 5 - 6 back issues. That was pretty legit.

06-Oct57.jpg

Duke was a short-lived men's magazine formed by ex-employees of the Johnson Publishing Company. It is notable as an early attempt at an upscale adult periodical for African-American audiences.
It was primarily a black and white publication, although the cover and centerfold were color printed.[1]

Like many of its contemporaries, the magazine was heavily inspired by the runaway success of Playboy magazine, although it featured no outright nudity and remained very tame all around. It was based in Chicago, both Playboy's hometown and a hub for African-American intellectuals of that era.[2]

The magazine's centerfold models were called Duchess of the Month.[3] The first Duchess was Eleanor Crews, who had earlier appeared as the October girl in the 1957 pin-up calendar included with the New Year issue of Jet.[4]

The magazine's publisher and main author was Benjamin Burns, who had previously worked on a men's magazine named Modern Man[2] and been prosecuted for obscenity on that occasion. While Modern Man was not an ethnic publication, and Burns was a white jew, he was well acquainted with the black press, having held high ranking positions at the Chicago Defender, Ebony and its sister publication Jet.[2]

The editor and face of the magazine was journalist and musician Dan Burley, although it has been argued that he was largely a figurehead hired to lend black credibility to the magazine, while Burns (who did not appear on the masthead)[5] was the main man.[2]

The magazine lasted just 6 issues.

I have shoe boxes full of these(more than 40) at my mom's in my old bedroom closet in mint condition. I wonder if they're worth something. All of my issues are between 93-99. I have this issue too..

Got Ms. Deja's pictorial debut(Black Tail)before she got fat.

They probably are, you should look into that.. Vintage/Retro adult mags, especially black ones are sought after by collectors.

I have a lot of issues as well and yes they are worth $$. I am going to hold on to them for a while longer before I sell but first I am going to have to scan all of them and that will take time.

When this magazine went under it hurt. Best black magazine ever published. They cut no corners, spared no one who needed to be pen whipped and they always got the story right. I miss the hell out of this magazine. :smh:

I think some of their writers went to this website: https://www.blackagendareport.com/

Unfortunately, BAR gets overlooked in favor of The Root, The Grio, and some of the black feminist-type websites. But there is a lot of real-ass writing and reporting there. Not beholden to the Democratic or Republican Parties either!

Doesn't matter if the writers went to this website or not, my first glance at it hooked me. Thanks

I'm co-signing both of these as well. Code was the best lifestyle magazine ever aimed at black men. Quality articles of substance. Like a black GQ.

Emerge was a great political magazine. The closest thing to it right now that I know of is www.blackagendareport.com

I already work in the publishing industry, and I am seriously interested in working on a great digital magazine for black people. But honestly, I really don't think the audience is there.

Bruh... there's definiyltely an audience. I work in Higher Ed, We may have mutual interests developing a similar platform. Let's take the convo offline. PM me if interested.

I've been looking to order old copies of Hush magazine. I think they only stayed in business for 2 years or so. Can't find it on ebay, amazon, nothing :smh:
