Debunking the "Shaq Carried Kobe" Myth: A Closer Look at Kobe's Impact in the Lakers' 3 Peat

get out of here..it was clear as day wade was the go to guy.. that whistle was on fire everytime he touched the ball and went to the hole..shaq was juss there

idk what's wrong today but you're intentionally missing my point about him being on the court changed the way they played.
it allowed wade to operate and do everything he did including get all those bullshit whistles and calls.

If shaq wasn't on that team they wouldn't have won period.
Him on the court made the difference because of the attention he got instead of it being rightfully focused on wade..
wade was the mvp of the finals they don't win it without shaq.
...and if Kobe wasnt on those Lakers teams they dont win 3 chips.... Shaqs dominant pre Kobe championship pedigree notwithstanding....

LMAO
cats are in here clowning now
shaq didn't need anyone to be considered GREAT
he was great and they were great.
that's 3 different guards that he took to the finals 3 different ones with different games and he's the common denominator
he didnt take scott skiles to the finals or even the playoffs.. didnt take nash.. oh yeah they weren't dominant slashers and penetrate with ease like wade, kobe, penny...all allstars during after shaq left

Look, there are players that didn't get as many rings as Kobe, because he got a chance to play with such a physically dominant player. That is great.

The PROBLEM is, when you start comparing him to other all-time great players, those years playing with Shaq are going to work against him, because statistics are a major part of determining who gets ranked where. For instance, Lebron James are consensus ahead of Kobe, yet Kobe has five titles in seven trips, and Lebron has 3 in 8. What is the difference maker? Numbers.

Kobe's numbers were affected playing with Shaq.

Getting to beast up more out of necessity obviously is going to elevate his all-time status, if guys with less rings can be ranked above him, and he has great career numbers.

Stats without context mean nothing.
if that's the cast Antwan Jamison had one of the all time great runs during his time with the warriors.

Your all over the place Bruh.... Point of this topic is Shaq didnt carry Kobe... All that other stuff you are talking is deflective banter....

So we talking past his prime shaq often injured shaq LOL
so the same stands for the last year or 4 years of kobe too correct???

Kobe's pedigree was long certified before shaq how could I forget
and immediately after when he went back to the finals without him
right away.
and didn't almost quit on the team and demand a trade lol

nah..wade was on the comeup and so was the heat..than they made that massive trade and got shaq.. juss like the lakers pre-shaq the heat also was on the verge of being a problem.. shaq def benefitted from being on teams with kobe and wade

Stats without context mean nothing.

Bro', Kobe didn't get the stat-padding years that other players got early on. Those early years where you ain't winning much of shit, but you're out to prove you're a great player, and carrying weaker teams. Kobe came IN with a completely different situation than everyone else.

Those stat-padding years play a major in role in why we consider players to be as great as they are all-time. Michael Jordan averaged 30.1ppg for the career, IN PART, because he averaged 37.1ppg and 35ppg early in his career, when the Bulls were shit. He retired the first time with a career 32ppg and some change average, which is fucking insane. Your AVERAGE is 32. It DROPPED to 30.1.

...again, you all over the place, deflective banter.

Kobe did win more Chips minus Shaq and was a much greater contributor while winning Finals MVP but I digress...

...again, point is, Shaq did not 'carry' Kobe.... all this who is better than who is deflective banter....

Shaq was so fucking dominant in his prime it wasn't even fair. I remember watching those Laker teams. Kobe was good, but I just wanted Shaq to go the fuck away.

You just said Kobe was good. Kobe was literally an MVP caliber player, especially after their first title run. But, Shaq's physical dominance was so great, it made it look like Kobe was a good player, supporting Shaq where he needed it.

That IS what I'm saying no other player Kobe is compared to ever had to deal with.

you mean sweepville in orlando... hakeem was like i had a dream that one day i'll son the shit out of somebody in 7 days..i had a dream that i will crush mickey mouse..shaq was like i can diggggggggg ittttttttt
:lol:Shaq was dominant as fuck durinv that sweepage tho :giggle:

Nah, that Chip where D Wade had to CARRY his heavy ass!

Penny was very talented, but Penny didn't pressure defenses like Kobe did, because he lacked Kobe's aggression.

I know this, because Penny was one of my favorite players before Kobe came in, but I used to be bothered by how he'd pass the ball off and go hide in a damn corner many games. Especially down the stretch.

I dropped Penny like a bad habit after a preseason game in Kobe's rookie year, against the Sixers.

It was the flair, the skill, and the aggression. Dude was out there like he wanted to take over the world on the basketball court. He damn near killed himself on one play, and had to miss games, but I was convinced. Penny didn't have THAT shit, though he was VERY talented.

...and something else other people conveniently forget is, while Shaq was the most dominant player, the Lakers always called on Kobe finish games for them during that run. They actually had to change the rule that a foul shot could be shot by anyone else on the team in the last two minutes, just to keep Shaq on the floor. Lakers had to take Shaq OFF the court, and who do you think had the ball then? Rick Fox?

It's the same shit Kyrie suffered from. People look at Lebron's gaudy stats, but act like Kyrie's ability to close out games the way he did wasn't a major determining factor in the outcome of the game. The game is 48 minutes long.

Now that Kyrie got a team built to compliment his game, he's flourishing like he never flourished in Cleveland.

dude the magic had 1 of the best offenses that yr.. penny, nick and dennis jumpshot and 3 point threat, horace reb, and shaq post game..they got swept.. in fact most people dont kno shaq has been swept out of various playoff series

shaq is the only player in sports history that is consider dominant but also a burden in the clutch.. think about it you have never heard of any great player in history that you have to bench cause your team mite lose if he's on the floor.. i always bring that up in convo's about shaq "greatness"

Bro', I realized yeeeears ago that there was something about Kobe Bryant that brought out the worst in people. In Kobe's second season - dude wasn't even a STARTER yet - dudes in my high school hated Kobe with a passion. LOLOLOL. My next year, in college, my dorm neighbors hated Kobe. Literally nobody on my floor liked Kobe. It was almost taboo to admit you liked Kobe. I've had CHICKS tell me they hated Kobe, and they didn't even watch basketball. Lebron fans whining about hate don't even know real hate.

Does Lebron have a cranrab, whose entire existence on an online forum seemed to revolve around debunking the notion that Kobe was a great basketball player.

Point is, diminishing Kobe's accomplishments were standard practice. Think I'm lying, pull up old BGOL threads about Kobe's scoring explosions from the mid-2000s. Some of you niggas hated that nigga with a passion.

I even remember niggas was hating on Kobe when he was interviewed by Inside The NBA, when they were asking him about the commercial where he 'jumped over a car'. Shit ain't even had nothing to do with basketball, and niggas were in that bitch spitting ether. :roflmao:

So, there was no incentive to point out any negatives about Shaq, if it suggested that Kobe Bryant wasn't a completely reliant upon Shaq, sidekick.

the funny thing is i liked kobe but hated shaq..so it was hard for me to accept them laker chips with him.. hell i low key started fading away from being an nba fan cause of shaq..3 yrs straight of that asshole winning a ring i was like fuck this shit..it was like watching a good movie only to have a completely shitty end..you like i watched this movie for nothing..that was the nba when shaq won rings

I already debunked this
Previously posted by me
2009 playoffs
First round - kobe 27/5/5, Gasol 18/9/1
Second Round - Kobe 27/5/3, Gasol 18/12/2
Third Round - Kobe 34/6/6, Gasol 17/12/3
Finals - Kobe 32/5/7, Gasol, 18/9/2

2011
First Round - Kobe 25/4/4, Gasol 18/12/3
Second Round - Kobe 32/4/6, Gasol 23/14/3
Third Round - Kobe 33/7/8, Gasol 19/7/3
Finals - Kobe 28/8/4, Gasol 18/11/3

So where was kobe carried?

And here, i'll throw in 2001 for you
First round - Kobe 25/4/8, Shaq 27/15/2
Second Round - Kobe 35/9/4, Shaq 33/17/2
Third Round - Kobe 33/7/7, Shaq 27/13/2
Finals - Kobe 24/8/6, Shaq 33/16/5
So of the 4 rounds, each player led the team in scoring twice.

Oh what the hell, lets take a look at 2002 as well
First round - Kobe 26/5/5, Shaq 25/11/4
Second Round - Kobe 26/5/5, Shaq 21/12/3
Third Round - Kobe 27/6/4, Shaq 30/13/1
Finals - Kobe 26/6/5, Shaq 36/12/4

Easier to replace Kobe than Shaq on those 3-peat teams

Where you gonna find a 7 foot 270 pound agile player?
Who could have replaced him? Who at that time was good on both offense and defense and could guard the PG, SG and SF?
Let's not forget that they had the top coach... Coaching them.... And that Phil had to come back out of retirement for Kobe to win his last two rings.... So let's not get in to this who needed who argument...
What does that have to do with anything?

With everyones opinion, take Magic and Shaq's opinion into consideration about Kobe now. Magic said, "He's the best Laker of all time" and Shaq said, "He's the great player he ever played with and he regret breaking that team apart".
