I remember when I got down here I couldn't understand the shit for nothing. Coming from NY, I just didn't see the appeal. Went to a club called the Icebox in NE and the bitches ... lawd ... they grinded the whole night. I was like ooooohhhhh- this was DC's "dancehall" music.

Regional taste thing that sometimes breaks out when it's watered down and made more paletteable for the masses. (EU, "Da Butt" - Kid N Play "Rollin' w/Kid and Play" - Salt N Pepa, "It's Your Thang")

You know what man, DC clubs will play club music, but I'm curious if anyone can find me a Baltimore club that play's go-go (even the standard Overnight Scenario, Uh-Oh, One leg up, shit even DJ Kool), every now and then a band will come to Baltimore for a college homecoming, or just to party, but even then it's all area dudes in there who are in college in Baltimore, I think VA ({of course} Northern and Southern) give go-go wayyy more love than Baltimore

mainly cause gogo is unoriginal and chaotic at its core....

when gogo had original songs, they couldn't reproduce the sound in the studio and still give it the energy it needed to be what it IS..which is local party music.

its highly improvised so a lot of times you can go to a gogo 3 different nights and see 3 different shows with the same 3 basic songs..

also, gogo songs dont last 3:30-4 minutes, try 10 minutes sometimes....

there are SO many bands and its highly territorial a lot playing the same band's songs or variations of wack songs that are already out...

that's mainly why gogo can't get beyond the district and a little down south.

thats not a diss, hell rare essence at the pool redefined my teenage years (who didn't have a tape of that??)

a lot of freaks will get butt ass naked in a gogo, but even gogo has divided itself..

most of the long standing bands will only do 25 and up shows

I always like the straight pocket other then the variation of the
(OOO LA LA LA beat EU) Rare Essences Variation was 1-ON-1
then the youngans came (JYB) and just took everything to another level.

Music was way better back in the day83-88 but these youngans are sick
with the beat side of shit. BYB & JYB Had the best overall band structure
with breaks and segways of the 2nd generation go go bands. That let you
know they played together and knew each other. N.e. was close 3rd.

I get so emotional when that nigga smacks them jonts.

Co-sign ... those fucking song are the equivalent of a white boy jam band. One song can last like 15 minutes and they'll just bang into another song.

Co-sign on the "Pool Party." I wasn't even from DC and word (and then VHS) of that shit made it up to NYC. I was like WTF!, them DC negros are fucking wild, sunn!
