This is fuckery! Now we all know Dwayne McDuffie, the brother who made Justice League Unlimited one of the best cartoons on TV thanks to his writing skills.

We also know Dwayne as the founder of DC's Milestone Comics back in the day, which was a line of books featuring ethnic superheroes. Recently, DC reintroduced those characters into DC's regular continuity. Yeah, ICON was a member of the JLA. Well, looks like all those ethnic heroes...except for Static...are being pushed back into a dark hole again. Read on...:hmm:

Looks like DC is VIACOM treating MILESTONE like BET.
I can't say I saw this coming. I don't know DC Staff like I know Marvel.
Looks like the Treat their Comics the same way they treated WCW.

I didn't really want the Milestone characters to be integrated into mainstream DCU anyway... They're better in their own universe(s).

Still, DiDio's been fucking McDuffie all over the place of late.

I didn't read yet but I so hope one day they make Static into a fuckin movie. That was hands down on of the best comic series ever. Matter of fact if they can make Kick Ass into a movie Static shoulda been out. The cartoon was decent too.

man this some bull, i wish someone with the money would help duke out and getting our on comics popping

maybe Marvel will holla :(

he made JLU my shit

those some good comparisons b

The worst part of this bullshit is that papers were signed before the "reintegration" Milestone Comics' characters and now they are under contract with DC for a set amount of time. So it's not like he can just take those characters to some other comic book company right now. If all DC really wanted was Static. So why even fuck with the rest of the Milestone characters in the first place? :hmm:

i really wanted these characters in dc, but not on new earth. i wanted them to get theiron earth to play in like wildstorm. could have made them earth 40

I used to read ICON and STATIC on a regular basis. This is straight bullshit the way they're treat the brother.

I don't read a lot of DC Comics cause they don't really appeal to me. So I don't think I'm gonna be getting any of their stuff anyway.

Man, I was calling this shit from jump.

Static Shock was crossed over into Batman: The Animated Series, The Zeta Project, Batman Beyond, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

YOU KNEW DC wanted that fan base.

While all of the other characters went straight into obscurity. I mean if you did a search on Google right now for fan fiction you will find STATIC and/or Static Shock dominates.

DC stay fucking up. I am biased though because I prefer Marvel when it comes to the big two.

Because that's what corporations do. FUCK YOU. That's their job. Them niggas NEVER shoulda signed under DC. Shit...they fucked the crackas that created Batman and Superman. You think they gonna give these guys a fair deal?

As I’ve said elsewhere, I think DC’s main interest in the Milestone characters and the Archie super-heroes and the Thunder Agents and Doc Savage et all is to keep anyone else from using them. Well-done self-contained universes featuring those character would compete very favorably with the current DCU and, for that matter, the Marvel Universe.

I used to read and still own the majority of the original four books (Hardware, Static, Blood Syndicate (my fave), and Icon). I was hyped to hear that they were bringing in the characters and reprinting the original stories in trades.
I'm just :smh:

That's weird because the Milestone characters have been heavily featured in the Justic League comics for the last couple of months. And Static is a Teen Titan now. It seemed like they had a solid working relationship.

I wonder how this will play out.

I'm not surprised.
Comic fans can be just as racist as any other CAC.
I remember when it was 1st announced that McDuffie was writing a JLA arc, mofos on a comic message board were whining about, "how many ethic characters was he gonna squeeze into the storyline?"
DC buys/options all these characters, ( Milestone, Charlton, Fawcett) just to make sure NOBODY else uses them.

They intentionally took the other characters so that there would be no challenge to their market of good black heroes since now would be a good environment for them to thrive in.

What's ironic is that lately I've been kinda qiving DC props for the way they se their black superheroes as opposed to Marvel.

A)They allow them to be leaders(Mr.Terrific,Cyborg)

B)DC has more black superheroes in the upper level power range than Marvel does(John Stewart,Firestorm, off the top of my head).

Just this evening I was reading FINAL CRISIS by Grant Morrison. I was shocked at how many black characters had fairly important roles-John Stewart,Black Lightning,Mr.Miracle II(Shilo Norman),even Black Racer of the New Gods.

Damn.. Do you think we should tell AFKAQ about Mr. Terrific? :smh:

Heres a Marvel Run Down...
Patriot - Leader in Young Avengers
Storm - Leader in X-Men
Cage - Leader in New Avengers
Brother Voodoo - New Master of Mysticism
Black Panther - First Black Superhero

STORM is by far the most Main Stream of any Black Superhero... So much that when you ask people to Name Black Superheroes, Her Name is rarely called out.

Man, the comic book business is just as racist as the movie business. IF the majority of people who read comics(white males) are so socially inadequate that they prefer fantasy over reality dont you think those same people lack any real interaction with blacks in the real world. The game aint changed it's just taken on a different name and face. CACs are gonna be who they are..lol

One of my favorite Marvel characters from the 90's was Deathlok.

He was no leader in anything and his book has some good story lines and some really lackluster ones.

But one of the things he had going that was unique was he was a hero with a family. He was active in their lives and it was a focal point of his storylines.

I wonder if McDuffie will do some Marvel stuff or head out and do some indie stuff again. I look forward to see how he rises from this.

Sad news.. It seems that for some reason Black Characters have to be "white" enough to sell books. They can't be too black or they will alienate others..

Maybe it's time to make a good character story abotu a character who happens to be black.

Those type of movies work well in hollywood. I mean Sanaa latham starred in AVP.. she was black and people accepted her in the role she played. She just happened to have good enough lines to pull of the action heroine role. So folks never identified her as "black", as weird as that may sound.

Fuck selling your blackness short to appease crackas!

I was with you until you unraveled and made no sense. But that is the bgol way. Here is how I see it. He has made a pretty good living with his work with dc. When you enter into a business relationship with a corp you can expect two things. you can expect to make some money and get fucked when they feel it is time. It happens to most people. He still owns rights to his characters. It was like any of them were as good as static. so he will cake off that and write for whatever company pays him to do that. not much is really changing for the dude. he wants more control then he knows what he needs to do. it is really that simple.

Didn't you read? McDuffie put up some of his own getting his lawyers to work out the deal with DC. He shouldn't have went for it....:smh:
Damn, so does this mean no Icon showing up in JLA like they originally planned for him in the Blackest Night saga? I felt like this was going to end badly no McDuffie can't use his characters in other books, ie. Marvel, for years now.

That reminds me of a White guy I used to work with. I didn't have anything against him, we were just two different type of people, so we didn't socialize much. But we both are into comics so we would chop it up about that sometimes.
We were at work and he was on the phone with a friend and hadn't heard me come in the room and he was blabbering about something comic related (one of those geeks that never satisfied with anything). Still not knowing I was in the room, he then goes "And you see what they did to Firestorm." That's when he noticed me and just cut it short. Even though I don't follow DC that hard, I knew that the new Firestorm was Black (partly) so I just . But I stayed there in the office longer than I was planning just to make him uncomfortable.

While "Blood Syndicate" was my favorite, the characters of Static and Rocket were two of my favorite individual characters. While unlikely, it'd be great to see them used in Marvel eventually. The Syndicate would fit in great with their MAX line.

Dwayne's gonna be alright. He's making that animation money and Ben 10 is lining his pocket. Sometimes you just gotta let go. DC pulled some bullshit, but after ten years, I think Dwayne has some aces up his sleeve. The brother's getting married and that shit gotta be brushed off his shoulders. Fuck WB and DC. He's got more than one idea. Next time, he'll be wiser.

Also, it saddens me that over the years, Dwayne rarely mentions Blood Syndicate. That was def my fave book from Milestone. I've given away nearly every comic I've owned for the last 20+ years, but the only box that I hold dear is a short box of comics that is entirely created by black/minority creators. Within that box is my nearly complete Blood Syndicate run...including Wise Son and some extra Icon, Static, Hardware, and other Milestone books. I covet that box like white boys covet their spider-man. That shit might not be worth anything financially (most of that stuff isn't worth more than a quarter, sadly) but it's priceless to me.

Props to Dwayne M. That cat's gonna be alright.

I am sure he will be fine. Jim lee, todd mcfarlene, stan lee, and others have be dicked over by the powers that be. When you swim with the sharks expect to be bitten.
