Desegregation is about equal protection under the law. Civil Rights is about equal protection under the law.
You couldn't go to a school according to the LAW
you couldn't ride in the front of the bus according to the LAW
you couldn't eat in certain places according to the LAW.
You weren't allowed certain funding according to the LAW
You couldn't buy a house according to the LAW
they could come and claim your house according to the LAW

we always threaten the status quo.

Segregation was making sure we couldn't even start off on a below level and move to a mid level.
Integration is not assimilation.
Nothing made us assimilate. We chose to do that on our own.
